Chapter 7: Team Test (Part 1)
On an island called Santa Prisca in the Pacific Ocean, the Illuminati had established a pharmaceutical factory. The entire island was controlled by a subordinate organization of the Illuminati called Cobra. Cobra cultists, dressed in red hooded robes and armed with various weapons, filled the entire island.
Inside the factory, various instruments were operating non-stop. In the top-floor office, a gaunt, pale-skinned man stood in front of the glass, overlooking the entire factory. He was toying with a bottle of blue potion in his hand: “Although Desmond is incredibly stupid, his Project Titan is truly brilliant. If it could merge with our GL11 venom, I wonder what kind of monster it would create? I’m really looking forward to it.”
In a dark cell within the factory, a thin, scarred man huddled in the corner. A cold iron chain was fastened around his neck. His hollow, lifeless eyes stared at the ground, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.
With a click, the heavy door opened. A Cobra cultist walked over and threw several hard, moldy pieces of bread in front of him. The man raised his eyes and looked at the cultist. Instantly, a cold, bloody gaze swept over him, causing cold sweat to break out. It was as if a top predator had set its sights on him. The cultist, terrified, ran away without looking back.
Inside the Justice Mountain Base training ground, intense sounds of combat continuously emanated. Two graceful figures were watching the sparring training of the young heroes through the glass—Supergirl Kara and Black Canary.
Kara was originally Superman’s cousin, but she was born more than ten years before Superman, making her his older cousin. When Krypton was destroyed, Kara’s spaceship followed closely behind Clark’s, but a meteorite struck her spaceship during Krypton’s explosion, causing her to deviate from her intended trajectory and enter a long period of hibernation. By the time she arrived on Earth, Superman was nearly 40 years old, while her body and memories remained in her teenage state. After a series of twists and turns, Kara also gradually accepted her identity as Supergirl. After mastering her abilities as a Kryptonian, she settled in National City and began her journey as a superhero.
Golden wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she wore a standard red and blue uniform. Her delicate face always carried a sunny smile, warming those around her like a small sun. Although Kara was Superman’s older cousin, her mischievous personality often gave Superman a headache. Initially, because she couldn't control her powers well, Superman had to deal with the troubles she caused. And every time she saw Superman, she had to maintain the image of a good older sister, which was very cute. But she possessed power absolutely no weaker than Clark’s. She was a bona fide high-level combatant.
The other person, Black Canary, whose real name was Donna Nrell, had long golden hair cascading down her shoulders. Her incredibly alluring face always held a hint of a smile. Her S-shaped figure was incredibly curvaceous, like a dangerous and beautiful thorny rose. She wore a black combat bodysuit, and her slender waist was perfect. The reason she could become the training instructor for the young heroes was because she herself was a master of combat and a master of tactics. She could emit high-frequency sonic attacks from her mouth, capable of hypnotizing, distracting enemies, causing dizziness, and mimicking any sound, as well as piercing metal and other objects. For young heroes lacking combat experience, she was undoubtedly the best coach.
Inside the training ground, five young heroes were divided into two groups for sparring training. On one side were Robin, Kid Flash, and Kaldur'ahm. On the other side were Li Ang and Megan. Through necessary sparring training, team members could not only become more familiar with each other's abilities but also improve their combat skills. This was the first team test. In the morning, Batman told everyone that before undertaking formal missions, they would need to undergo two team tests. In the first test, everyone needed to do their best to defeat their opponents until all members of one side lost their combat ability, and the other side would be declared the winner.
“Just fight however you like in a bit, don’t worry, I’ll protect everyone,” Kara stood outside the field, encouraging the young heroes.
“This test is mainly to collect some of your combat data, which will make it easier to formulate team combat plans in the future. Alright, you can start,” Donna said to the young heroes after debugging the test machine.
Megan, who didn't perfectly control her abilities, was a bit worried at this moment. On Mars, she often injured her uncle due to mental power outbursts. Sensing Megan's unease, Li Ang proactively took her hand to comfort her: “It’s okay, this is just a test.” Li Ang’s gentle smile gradually dispelled the unease in Megan’s heart.
She nodded firmly, looking at the sunny young man with a pure smile in front of her. Megan's heart gradually firmed up. When she was on Mars, her clan members were often mocked by the Green Martians because she was a White Martian. When she first met this young man after coming to Earth with her uncle, she was drawn to this young man with a unique soul. Perhaps it was because Megan possessed telepathic abilities far exceeding Martian Manhunter’s, this unique and bright feeling filled her heart. However, in subsequent interactions, she gradually discovered that she seemed to have fallen in love with this young man, so she made up her mind to control her abilities well and to protect him.
“Oh, come on, how long are you two going to hold hands?” Wally, who had been impatient to start the test, couldn't help but say sourly when he saw the situation.
“Ahem, let’s begin.” Li Ang’s face was flushed, perhaps because he had been exposed. The two teenagers, who were in the midst of a budding romance, both pretended as if nothing had happened.
Donna, watching from the sidelines, saw Megan take Li Ang’s hand and let out a soft tsk, feeling an inexplicable displeasure and a pang of jealousy.
No sooner had he spoken than Wally’s red and yellow lightning surged, and he was the first to rush out. His target was Li Ang; as long as he dealt with the strongest Li Ang, the remaining Megan would not be a concern. The overconfident Kid Flash quickly paid the price for his reckless behavior.
Under the Speed Force’s perspective, everything was very slow for Wally, but now Li Ang’s body slowly turned, dodging Wally’s direct punch. His reaction speed was actually so fast! One must know that Wally was currently enhanced by the Speed Force, yet Li Ang easily dodged this attack, which was enough to show that his reaction was absolutely abnormal.
Ever since the great battle with Desmond, Li Ang found that his physical qualities were constantly improving. All of this seemed related to his outburst that day, as if he had opened a valve to something. He could feel that something like a constant star inside his body was improving his physical qualities.
Originally, Li Ang, who only had half Kryptonian genes, had a limited space for improvement, but now, this limit was being shattered. He originally did not have Heat Vision, but since the great battle, this ability had also been developed by him.
For this, he had even consulted Superman and Batman. After various instrument tests, it was found that all aspects of his body were gradually increasing, and there was no limit. At least by Superman’s standard, given enough time, Li Ang could surpass Superman.
Furthermore, as the intensity of battles gradually escalated, this time would only become shorter and shorter. Moreover, after testing, Li Ang’s white Heat Vision, whether in terms of intensity or penetration, was at least on the same level as Darkseid’s Omega Beams.
Darkseid’s Omega Beams are based on his own Omega Effect, corresponding to the destructive opposite of the Source’s creative power. It is precisely because Darkseid possesses the Omega Effect that he can fire Omega Beams from his eyes. These beams can vaporize and erase any form of matter, whether living or non-living.
But perhaps because Li Ang was not yet strong enough, his Heat Vision was far from reaching the level of rivaling the Omega Beams. In this regard, Batman’s view was that Li Ang’s body might possess a rule-force similar to the destructive opposite of the Source’s creative power.
Li Ang, who had just dodged Wally’s punch, collected his thoughts. Before he could counterattack, Megan, whose mental power covered her entire body, floated in the air and struck Wally with a powerful mental blast, sending him flying dozens of meters away.
“Ugh… Ah… My head hurts so much, Megan, you hit too hard.” Wally stood up, clutching his head.
“You shouldn’t be so reckless, we should attack together.” Kaldur’ahm walked over to Wally, drew his weapon, and his tattoos lit up, blue lightning covering the entire weapon.
Robin threw several explosive batarangs, which precisely exploded on Li Ang. As the smoke and dust cleared, Li Ang’s figure shot out like a sharp sword, appearing before Kaldur’ahm in the blink of an eye. His steel-like fist smashed into Kaldur’ahm.
Facing a monster like Li Ang, Kaldur’ahm, who also possessed Super Strength, simply couldn't withstand it, as Super Strength also has different levels. Robin constantly harassed from the side, but in the face of absolute power, all strategies were insignificant (except for Batman’s Kryptonite weapons and magic, after all, those are Kryptonians’ natural enemies).
Wally, who had recovered, continuously harassed and attacked from the side. At this moment, Li Ang, fighting one against three, did not fall behind in the slightest. His abnormal reaction ability greatly compensated for his lack of combat experience.
At this point, Megan also flew over and joined the battle. Her powerful mental energy constantly impacted the brains of the three, interfering with their fighting. Not long after, Wally and his two companions raised their hands in surrender.
After all, it was just a sparring match; there was no need for everyone to fight to the death. Although they didn't use their full strength and each had their own trump cards unused, at this moment, the pressure Li Ang and Megan brought them was simply too great.
Clap, clap, clap, Donna walked in, clapping her hands: “Very good, you all performed very well, especially Li Ang, your reaction ability in combat is perfect, I think very highly of you~~” Donna smiled, looking at Li Ang with gentle eyes.
In the next few minutes, Donna’s eyes seemed to be glued to Li Ang, making the pure-hearted Li Ang’s face flush red. Megan watched Donna’s gaze on Li Ang, and the more she looked, the more something felt off, and her sense of crisis continuously escalated.
Suddenly, she stood in front of Li Ang, blocking Donna’s gaze. In an instant, their eyes met, and it was as if electric sparks flew between them, and the atmosphere of a Shura field spread at that moment.
Li Ang looked back at the two who were staring at each other, and everything returned to normal. Both of them simultaneously showed harmless smiles. Li Ang scratched his head and muttered to himself, “I shouldn’t have felt wrong just now, there was clearly a smell of gunpowder.”
“Today’s first results are very good, everyone passed the test. Soon, we will create suitable training and combat plans for you based on this combat data. The second test will come soon, I hope you will be ready at any time,” Supergirl Kara said to everyone with a smile.
