However, while it was in the middle of dodging, the tail of the Firescourge Scorpion suddenly elongated several times in length and quickly tried to stab the Starweaver while it was off guard.
‘I didn’t know it could do that?!’ Kain thought in surprise. Kain wasn’t sure if that was a universal ability of all Firescourge Scorpions or if it was due to some kind of unique skill or gift…
However, despite being slightly caught off guard by the sudden elongation of a body part, Serena’s expression didn’t change at all. The Starweaver summoned a protective barrier of starlight that the sharp tail slammed strongly against, causing a rippling effect on the shield as it struggled to remain intact.
Kain couldn’t help but wince. Kain had fought Serena’s contract enough times both in reality and in the System, therefore he knew just how resilient that shield of sparkling energy truly was. The fact that it was rippling and straining in order to remain intact, Kain could guess how heavy the blow the scorpion unleashed truly was.
Seeing that it wouldn’t be able to strike her contract with its tail directly, it decided to take a more widespread attack approach.
Afterall, the poison ejected from its tail is known to be extremely corrosive and dissolve entire settlements overnight. Therefore, Firescoourge Scorpions don’t use their poison to only affect living things.
Indeed, the scorpion made a decision that surprised many watching and inserted the point of its tail into the stage.
Suddenly an unpleasant smell—a mix of melting rubber and metal—began to spread. Soon the audience was able to see the effects of the tail’s insertion on the stage, as the scorpion now stood in a corrosive puddle emanating steam as it spread outwards. The entire region of the stage surrounding the scorpion had become a no man’s land.
Then striking the ground that now has a texture more similar to magma, pieces of molten stage went flying in all directions.
The Starweaver reacted swiftly, weaving through the debris with an elegant grace, and then summoning a shield of starlight to absorb the impact of any lingering projectiles.
However, the corrosive nature of its poison was even able to dissolve its shield. Small circles appeared on the shield where it had been hit by the debris, giving the shield’s previously sturdy appearance a resemblance closer to swiss cheese.
Even more unpleasantly, now that so much of the area around the scorpion had become a toxic wasteland, the attacks used against it must also be more carefully chosen since it may cause toxic shrapnel to go flying around in retaliation—harming themselves and increasing the spread. Any attacks launched must hit the scorpion, and only the scorpion precisely.
Moreover, the scorpion was now beginning to sink into the now sludge-like stage, and those watching could tell that the corrosion of the stage had now gone deep enough that it could probably submerge its entire body beneath, further reducing the number of effective skills that could be used.

‘What is that? It looks like a stick figure standing on a line and holding a stick. Is it a swordsman? Magician?’ Kain wasn’t sure about the identity of this skill since he hadn’t seen it before.
With wings outstretched, it summoned a swirling vortex of starlight directly above the Firescourge Scorpion’s toxic pool. The arena dimmed as if night had fully fallen, as celestial energy concentrated above the battlefield, and the atmosphere of the audience filled with anticipation at witnessing a star-attribute attack.
Suddenly, a dazzling beam of starlight descended, splitting apart the darkness like a silver-blue dragon and headed straight for the scorpion who, after an intense feeling of foreboding, began to dive deeper and deeper.
The light pierced through the toxic sludge, illuminating the arena in an ethereal glow. The scorpion was momentarily lifted from its corrosive protective barrier, and suspended in midair as it struggled…like a fish caught on the end of a fishing rod.
