‘Fisherman?’
Kain tried to connect this scene to the constellation that hade previously appeared briefly. Remembering the vague figure of a person holding a stick…was that the fishing rod? Then the line it was standing on was a boat?
Kain felt like he’d need a degree in abstract art in order to understand that. Not to mention, someone with a very creative mind must have looked at those random dots of stars and actually seen that picture to designate it as a constellation.
‘I supposed I just don’t have any talent in this regard…’
With the scorpion suspended in the air, the Starweaver did not continue to attack it. After all, since most of its skills are actually derived from one single skill, which is to draw on the power of the constellations, its hands were tied. It had no attacking skills outside of drawing on the constellations, therefore as long as it kept the scorpion suspended it had no way of attacking.
Kain’s eyes lit up as he noted this weakness. In all their previous matches, it had moved so seamlessly from using one skill to another, that he’d never made the connection that it had no attacking skills independent from the constellations. Also he had never had to face this fisherman skill before, or any other skill that required a long usage time. If he could somehow create a strategy that would lure it into using this skill, wouldn’t he be able to prevent it from using many of its other abilities?
However, just because the Starweaver couldn’t attack, that didn’t mean Serena couldn’t. Suddenly a beautiful shimmering bow appeared in her hands.
It was crafted from a wood that shimmered and appeared to glow with a soft, ethereal light. Its limbs were elegantly curved, adorned with intricate carvings of constellations that seemed to shift and shimmer as if alive under the light.
It was strung with a silken thread spun from the hair of a powerful, and presumed to be extinct, spiritual creature, and seemed to hum with an otherworldly energy, that amplified the wielder’s strength and precision. The grip, was wrapped in midnight-blue leather, providing a cool and firm hold even in the heat of battle.
At its center, the bow featured a stunning gemstone, a deep sapphire that mirrored the night sky, embedded within a golden filigree. This gem not only served as a focal point of beauty but also as a conduit for spiritual power, allowing the bow to form arrows made purely from the power of the stars themselves once injected with spiritual power.
A couple people in the audience’s eyes widened. This bow looked remarkably similar to the Storm family’s most precious heirloom—the Celestial Bow. The bow that was wielded by the founder of the Storm family, and one of the founders of the Celestial Empire. However, the competition limits the strength of any weapons used, obviously one of the most powerful weapons ever made would be off-limits. Is it a replica they made for a doted on child of the family? Or did they actually take out that heirloom and seal its abilities for a mere descendant? Either explanation would be surprising and display just how much Serena was valued by the Storm family.
Serena drew the bow and a shimmering arrow began to shimmer into existence as the string was pulled taut. As Serena drew the bow, she became a captivating figure against the backdrop of the arena. Her silver-white hair flowed like liquid moonlight, cascading down her back in shimmering waves that caught the light with every movement.
The ethereal glow of her hair framed her delicate, almost elf-like features that were in stark contrast to her cold blue eyes that sparkled with a fierce intensity. They were sharp and piercing, focused entirely on her target.
When drawn, the bow emitted a faint hum, and the arrow released glided through the air like a shooting star, leaving a trail of shimmering light that lingered for a moment before fading out of existence.
The arrow landed perfectly in the centre of the back of the suspended Firescourge Scorpion’s abdomen. A brilliant explosion of starlight erupted from the impact, illuminating the arena in a dazzling display.
The scorpion thrashed against its confinement, its exoskeleton cracking under the weight of the attack, but it could do little against the overwhelming force of the starlit arrow. Suddenly arrow continued to move beyond the cracked open exoskeleton until it reached a tube-like structure that contracted rhythmically to pump blood through the scorpion’s body—its heart. freewebnvel.coɱ
Thankfully, Serena seemed to have calculated the strength needed perfectly, and the arrow made of starlight disappeared right before the heart could be penetrated.
Sensing that its most important organ was also left exposed to the enemy, the scorpion stopped thrashing and slumped over in submission.
Jacob stood frozen for a moment, disbelief etched across his face. He had always been confident in his creature’s abilities, but the strange skills displayed by the Starweaver, combined with the sheer might of her arrow, had shattered his resolve. The scorpion, once a fierce and terrifying force, now lay still, remnants of starlight that had composed the now-gone arrow illuminating its body.
Swallowing hard, Jacob glanced at his fallen companion, its once-menacing pincers now limp and its eyes dull. He could feel the weight of the crowd’s anticipation pressing down on him, the exhilaration of victory turning to a heavy sense of loss. He took a deep breath, steadying himself as he raised his hand, calling for the match to end. “I forfeit!” he shouted, his voice cutting through the cheers like a knife.
A hush fell over the crowd for a split second before a wave of applause erupted once more, celebrating the end of the incredible match.
Serena gently lowered her bow as her mouth lifted into a faint smile that Kain and the others had never seen before. However, that slight upturning of her lips seemed to light up the arena as it was displayed on the screen for everyone to see, and it caused the cheers of the crowd to briefly stagnate collectively, before once again cheering even louder…this time not purely due to the match.
