Van looks at Julian with blazing eyes, from his expression Julian could easily tell that this Van is a battle freak so Julian decided to play along with Van a little.
Van "So we finally meet, I was really waiting to battle you from the moment I saw your battle in the preliminaries"
Julian just looks and doesn't say anything because he has nothing to say, Julian only heard Van's name yesterday because he was his opponent, he didn't even know the trainers in the top 16 except Ash, Ritchie, and Melissa who defeated Gary in his fourth preliminary round.
Seeing Julian being mute and not answering back Van also gave up, he had observed that Julian didn't speak much during his other battles as well, Van also didn't mind it as he continued to talk.
Van "I am going to defeat you and every other opponent and win this league"
Julian 'Well he looks very confident, should I break it, I really hope he can put up a fight'
Julian doesn't reply again as he waits for the match to start.
Announcer "Today's second match is now going to begin, our first battle of the day was really awesome and Andrew has come out on top as he advances to the Quater-Finals, now let's focus on our current battle between Van and Julian, Van is also a new face in the Indigo league and has shown his skills by defeating each and every trainer he faced by using only two pokemon in a battle, on the other hand we have Julian and he holds the record of defeating all his opponent only using one pokemon in a battle, his only pokemons which he has revealed are his Venusaur and Pidgeot his other pokemons are still a mystery to us, this is going to be a very exciting battle"
The referee then steps forward caring two flags colored red and green and looks at both Julian and Van.
Referee "This is a knock out round to determine the quarter-finalist for the Indigo League tournament, both trainers are allowed to use three pokemons each, both are allowed to switch their pokemons during their battle, the first person who has all his pokemons eliminated will lose"
Referee "Trainer Van ready?"
Van nods his head.
Referee "Trainer Julian ready?"
Julian also nods his head.
Referee "Then let the battle begin"
The referee yells as he waves both the flags indicating to start the match.
Julian "Go Pidgeot"
Van "Pidgeot huh? then I choose Onix"
Announcer "Both of them have chosen their Pokemon, Julian is going with his Pidgeot while Van has revealed a new pokemon of his team"
Julian 'An Onix a good choice, its attacks won't be much of a problem but its defense should be really high'
While Julian is thinking Van already starts his assault.
Van "Onix use Rock Throw"
Onix creates numerous small rocks around it and sends them shooting towards Pidgeot, Pidgeot easily avoids them by doing slight adjustments with his wings and dodges them all.
Van "Onix don't stop, use Rock Throw continuously"
Onix again creates numerous small rocks and this time they are faster than the previous ones but its no use as Pidgeot's is way faster and glides through them without even being touched.
Julian 'Looks like he is just concentrated on offense, well with a defense like Onix's why would he try to defend but his bad luck that he has to face me'
The Rock Throw continues as Pidgeot dodges them one after the other.
Julian "Pidgeot take the sky and deflect them using Twister"
Pidgeot escapes the small rocks and flies up high to the sky as he starts to flap his winds and create a huge Twister and sends it towards the incoming Rocks.
The Twister sucks the incoming rocks inside it and sends them crashing towards the ground everywhere, few of them even hit Onix and startles it.
Announcer "Look at this, Onix move has backfired"
Van "Onix defend your self"
Van never expected that his move is going to be reversed at himself since Twister is a Dragon-type move it could easily deflect Rock-type moves without being in a disadvantage
Julian "Now dive down and use Sand Attack"
Pidgeot swiftly dives down and uses Sand Attack while Onix is still busy trying to escape from the barrage of rocks flying towards it, the sand starts to rise as Pidgeot disappears into it.
Van 'Shit this is same like his battle with Kassandra if Onix and I can't see Pidgeot we cannot counter it, we are in trouble'
Julian "Hit Onix with multiple Steel Wings"
As Pidgeot is blended well inside the cloud of sand Onix doesn't know from where it will be attacked, Pidgeot hit Onix from the right with a powerful steel wing, steel type moves are really effective so Onix is hurt but it doesn't stop there, another steel wing is delivered right in the front of it body then the left, then the right, Pidgeot's movement is very unpredictable and putting Van and Onix in a really tough spot, they don't know from where Pidgeot is gonna his.
Announcer "We don't see what is happening down, but we all know Oxin is cornered and cannot find a way out, looks like its over for Onix"
Van 'This is really bad if this continues Onix will not be able to hold up, Hmm the Sand Attack is wearing out, Onix hang in there'
Van "Onix stay strong, just a little more and it will be over"
Onix stays strong and holds up until the cloud of sand completely disappears, Van sighs in relief seeing Onix is still hanging in there but he suddenly notices something.
Van "Where is Pidgeot?"
But it was too late for him to realize before he could even find Pidgeot, Pidgeot had flown up into the air before the cloud of sand disappeared, escaping from everyone's eyes then as the sand cloud got cleared he dived down while using Steel Wing and thrashed it directly onto Onix's head sending the huge pokemon onto the ground as its head crashed on the hard ground and it fainted.
Referee "Onix is unable to battle, Pidgeot wins"
Announcer "Onix bites the dust, that Steel Wing from the sky writes down Onix's final page, now we have to see what countermeasures Van has to fight back"
Van 'As expected Julian really is the toughest opponent in the whole league, I don't know if I will win but I have to put on a good fight'
Van "Go Beedrill"
Announcer "Van chooses Beedrill, what is Van thinking to do? Beedrill is clearly at a disadvantage against Pidgeot"
Julian 'Beedrill, does he want to take the battle to the sky? no, no he wants to poison Pidgeot so that he can weaken him even though this is really a good strategy and might take many by surprise but not me'
Van was exactly thinking of poisoning Pidgeot, he sent out Beedrill so that Julian will let his guard down because of the type advantage Julian has, Van thought he would use this and poison Pidgeot to weaken him and make it even but unlucky for him Julian has seen through him clearly.
Van "Beedrill use Twineedle"
Beedrill takes the air as it points it two needle-sharp arms towards Pidgeot and launches towards him.
Julian "Pidgeot fly around"
Pidgeot starts to fly away and escape from Beedrill, soon it becomes a game of cat and mouse, Beedrill is tight on the trail behind Pidgeot who is just messing around sometimes flying in a circle sometimes he would do 360 degree turns in mid-air and some crazy air stunts to startle Beedrill, it had become an air show for spectators as they watched the chase between Pidgeot and Beedrill.
Van was getting frustrated as he is able to get his Beedrill close to Pidgeot.
Van "Beedrill use Air cutter"
Beedrill stops chasing Pidgeot then sends out multiple Air Cutters towards Pidgeot.
Julian "Dodge the use Air Slash"
Pidgeot expertly moves between the incoming Air Cutters and sends a huge crescent-shaped Air Slash towards Beedrill as Pidgeot was very close to Beedrill, Beedrill didn't have time to make an escape as the Air Slash hit it very badly as it went flipping in the air and on to the ground crashing, Beedrill struggles to get up but still does, it still has some fight left in it.
Van "Beedrill return"
Van calls back Beedrill back as he knew if Beedrill cannot hold up.
Van "Go Blastoise"
Announcer "Van has decided to call back Beedrill and sent out Blastoise"
Julian 'Looks like he wants to drag on the battle, I am getting bored'
Julian "Pidgeot return"
Announcer "Oh, even Julian decided to change his pokemon, who is it gonna be?"
Julian calls back Pidgeot as he doesn't want to overwork his pokemons, Pidgeot used a lot of energy in his battle with Onix, taking down a tank pokemon like that will cost a lot of energy, even though Pidgeot could continue and win the entire match Julian decided not to.
Julian "Venusaur it's your turn"
Announcer "It's his Venusaur, Venusaur has single-handedly won three battles for Julian and it looks like the fans are really happy to see it favorite pokemon, Venusaur has also gained a lot of fame in this league"
Van "Blastoise use Hydro Pump"
Julian "Counter with Energy Ball"
Two powerful attacks are launched towards each other as they collide huge explosion is followed afterward, Julian doesn't want to drag this on so he decided to finish it quickly,
Julian [Use Leach Seed]
Julian sends a telepathic message to Venusaur so that he doesn't alert his opponent.
Venusaur shoots multiple seeds towards Blastoise as the land on the ground near it and the next second vines grow and tie up Blastoise as it slowly drains away Blastiose energy.
Van gets startled by the sudden attack, he had never expected this.
Van "Blastoise try to break free"
Blastoise starts to struggle and tries to rip off the vines that are draining its power slowly.
Julian "No you don't, Venusaur use Giga Drain"
Venusaur sends his two vines and wraps Blastoise and starts to suck up all the energy remaining inside Blastoise, Blastoise becomes week and falls on its knees.
Julian "Finish it Energy Ball"
Its all over Blastoise gets hit by a powerful Energy Ball while it is at its weakest, it falls on the ground fainted with no movement.
Referee "Blastoise is unable to battle Venusaur wins"
Announcer "That was so quick, Venusaur is really a monster, looks like Van has no chance of winning now"
Van "Go Beedrill, use Pin Missile"
As soon as Beedrill enters the battlefield Van instructs it to use Pin Missile, it being a bug type move may be effective against Venusaur so Van doesn't give up and choose to fight till the end
Julian "Counter it with Razor Leaf, followed by Giga Drain"
Venusaur sends multiple Razor Leaves towards the incoming Pin Missile and behind it are two thick vines.
Van "Beedrill dodge"
The Pin Missile and the Razor Leaves deflect each other but the vines continue to move forward towards Beedrill, Beedrill tries to escape but the vines follow it, Beedrill is already tired from its previous battle with Pidgeot and cannot escape with full speed and so the vines quickly gets the hold of Beedrills legs and Giga Drain takes place draining the little amount of energy left inside Beedrill hence it falls to the ground fainted from exhaustion.
Referee "Beedrill is unable to battle, so the winner and the person to qualify for the quarter-finals is Julian"
Announcer "Its over Julian is still undefeated and he has only shown two of his pokemon giving him an advantage against all other trainers who are going to the quarter-finals"
The crowd burst into cheers as Julian walks away looking at Van once, Van doesn't seem to be much affected by this loss.
Announcer "The next battle will commence in one-hour between Ash and Ritchie"
Julian goes to the pokemon center and gives his pokemon to Sara so that she can take care of them, Sara has been helping Julian take care of his pokemons from day one of the Indigo league.
Julian turns on the television as he sees that the third battle is going to begin, he watches Ash lose as his Charizard doesn't listen to him and so Ritchie advances to the next round.
The day goes by as the fourth round of the day also finishes with Assunta coming on top and advancing to the quarter-finals.
The match card is also made very quickly as Julian will face Andrew and Ritchie will face Assunta in the quarter-finals.
