He could never tell anyone that he had called off an engagement. He simply replied vaguely, “It’s over and done with. I can finally stay on campus with no trouble.”
“By the way, we start our military training tomorrow. Shall we go out for some last minute fun? How about karaoke?” suggested Cao Jianhui.
Standing up, he enthusiastically bellowed to the other roommates, “Brothers! Let’s sing our lungs out! I’ll treat us all! How about it? School hasn’t started yet! We might as well enjoy whatever free time we have before it’s too late!”
Li Fuming and Wu Longjiang jumped up in excitement, expressing their jubilance about the idea. Luo Ziling on the other hand, wasn’t too happy.
“Come on! Let’s go together!” Cao Jianhui locked arms with Luo Ziling and pulled him off his seat. “If you don’t, you won’t be giving me face!”
Luo Ziling was left with no choice.
Once they left the dormitory complex, Cao Jianhui asked, “Boss, why didn’t you want to come with us?”
He was not satisfied with Luo Ziling’s previous response to his karaoke suggestion.
“What’s wrong? Tell me. I wanted to treat you to a meal and you rejected my offer. Now, I want to pay for a karaoke session and you don’t want to go. Are you seriously not giving me any face here?”
“I couldn’t join you for a meal because of the important matter I had to settle,” said Luo Ziling immediately. “And I didn’t want to sing because I can’t sing. In fact, I have never sang in a karaoke room before. I’m afraid of ruining the night for you guys.”
“Bah! What is that?” barked Cao Jianhui.
He was incredibly relieved after hearing Luo Ziling’s explanation. He put on a smug look and patted Luo Ziling’s shoulder. “It’s just singing amongst bros! It’s just us. There won’t be any girls there. Even if you sing like a duck, no one will say anything! Isn’t that right guys?”
Wu Longjiang and Li Fuming nodded as they hummed loudly in agreement. Luo Ziling had nothing else to say then. Internally, he made a choice to just sit there and listen instead of picking up the mic.
The entire group proceeded as planned. Everyone except Luo Ziling was in rather high spirits. As they made their way to the nearest karaoke center, they started to talk about interesting things about their campus. The topic quickly drifted to beautiful chicks, particularly focused on the girls from their previous school, as well as their fellow first-year students.
It was odd. Cao Jianhui was oddly well-informed on all the hot gossip about Yenching University’s beautiful girls, and could weave epic tales about them. He even knew about other beautiful first-year students.
“Did you know? According to the general consensus, Yang Qinglin, a second-year student from last year’s intake, is the most beautiful student in Yenching University,” said Cao Jianhui, with a mysterious look on his face.
“Not only is she beautiful, she’s also a jill-of-all-trades, a master-of-all even! She’s skilled in art, piano, and chess, reads extensively, paints beautifully, and even dances well! Luo Ziling narrowed his eyes and focused. The moment he could properly see the beautiful girl Cao Jianhui was pointing at, he froze.
She was beautiful, tall, and because of the men surrounding her, her beauty only stood out more. She was the young lady who had crossed his path a number of times.
During their last encounters, Ouyang Huihui was always sporting a pair of dark sunglasses. The first time they met, she had stayed inside her car the whole time. That was why Cao Jianhui and the two other guys did not recognize her as the girl in the red sports car.
Seeing that Cao Jianhui was about to leave their group to greet her, Luo Ziling immediately held him back. “There’s too many guys there. We will only be causing a ruckus.”
