It was a little incomprehensible that there was someone in this world who actually took on his mother’s family name as it went against the widely practiced norm of taking one’s father’s family name. Upon her observation of Xia Zhuoyi’s indifferent expression, Ling Chuxi understood that there was definitely some special reason for this.
She didn’t ask about it and changed the subject instead.
“Aunty Xia, I have a little understanding of medical expertise. Let me take a look at your eyes,” said Ling Chuxi.
“My eyes?” Xia Rulin continued speaking with a sigh, “There is no need. I am very clear on this matter in my own heart.” She shook her head and smiled bitterly as she spoke.
“Mother, how would you know if you don’t even try?” asked Xia Zhuoyi anxiously.
Xia Rulin heard how anxious her son was and decided to compromise her decision. “All right then, I will have to trouble Chuxi,” she said willingly. However, from her expression, one knew she did not carry any great hopes.
Ling Chuxi stood up and began to examine Xia Rulin. She pulled down Xia Rulin’s lower eyelid to take a look, then she took Xia Rulin’s pulse. During this period, Xia Zhuoyi didn’t even dare exhale. He looked at Ling Chuxi nervously with anticipation, fearful of her saying something like there was no way of curing his mother.
“It is treatable. It’s just that you’ll have to suffer a little, Aunty Xia,” concluded Ling Chuxi with a serious expression once she finished her checkup.
“Really? It is? I knew Ling Chuxi would be able to treat you! This is just too good!” exclaimed Xia Zhuoyi in shock and happiness. He had previously only held onto a thread of hope with the intention of giving this opportunity a shot, entertaining the feeling that there was a possibility that the condition of his mother’s eyes was treatable. But still, to personally hear Ling Chuxi say the words made him both shocked and very happy.
“What? You mean you can cure it?” gasped Xia Rulin in surprise after hearing Ling Chuxi’s assessment. Her tone contained more shock than happiness.
Xia Zhuoyi didn’t notice his mother’s odd expression. At present, his heart was only capable of being happy and excited. However, Ling Chuxi was sensitive enough to notice something was amiss with Xia Rulin.
“Yes, it is treatable. Aside from taking a medicinal pill, there is a need to use gold needles to dredge your meridians,” said Ling Chuxi calmly. “These gold needles need to be specially forged as they will be used to perforate the skin around your eyes to release the blood clots in your eyelids. As such, there will be pain…” Such a treatment method was unheard of to both Xia Zhuoyi and the fifth princess. When she heard Ling Chuxi’s prescription, the fifth princess was astounded, and she looked at Ling Chuxi with a worshipful gaze once more.
“A medicinal pill? Is there truly such a pill?” asked Xia Zhuoyi worriedly.
“Yes, there is. It can be refined with Chi Lian Grass, a White Night Flower and a Seven Star Flower. Coincidentally, I have a Seven Star Flower in my possession. We just need to procure Chi Lian Grass and a White Night Flower,” said Ling Chuxi with a nod. “The refinement of this medicinal pill has a high probability of failure, however, that won’t be a problem. As long as just a pill is refined, that would suffice.”
“How do I procure these materials? I’ll find them for sure,” announced Xia Zhuoyi with a face full of determination.
“You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll find a way—” Ling Chuxi was already thinking of who to slaughter for this favor. The Lan family ran a big business. If she didn’t slaughter them, it was practically saying that there were no laws of nature to balance things out.
“Miss Ling Chuxi, please step aside with me.” Before Ling Chuxi could finish speaking, she was interrupted by Xia Rulin’s serious request. After she spoke, Xia Rulin stood up and walked towards the bedroom.
Xia Zhuoyi was stunned. “Mother, what’s the matter?” he asked in worry and confusion.
“Just wait out here. There are some things I’d like to ask Miss Ling Chuxi,” said Xia Rulin. The expression on her face was solemn and imposing. Xia Zhuoyi and the fifth princess began to feel uncomfortable with how the situation was developing, they were unable to understand the sudden change in Xia Rulin’s behavior.
Ling Chuxi stood up and followed Xia Rulin.
“Chuxi…” called out Xia Zhouyi in worry with a frown. He couldn’t comprehend his mother’s sudden solemnity.
“It’ll be fine,” said Ling Chuxi as she raised her hand to indicate to Xia Zhuoyi that he needn’t be so nervous. Then, she followed Xia Rulin to back of the hall indifferently.
