Xiao Haiqing couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Jing Yunzhao.
“Don’t you realize it? She is being prejudiced. I know her birthday has nothing to do with us, but the way she’s being so prejudiced against you is wrong! Imagine how our other classmates are going to laugh at you or feel sorry for you every time they talk about it. You should know how wild their imagination can be; do you want to spend all three years of your high school being suspected and isolated?” Xiao Haiqing explained indignantly.
Xiao Haiqing was so worked up that she would have slammed the table if the class wasn’t still going on.
“What do you suggest I do then? Isn’t it more embarrassing to invite myself to an event?” Jing Yunzhao murmured and glanced at Ye Qing who was sitting in the front row of the class.
“About that… I actually made a reservation for a VIP private room at the same restaurant. All we have to do is to order one whole table of dishes and enjoy,” Xiao Haiqing said indifferently, blinking at Jing Yunzhao.
Xiang Hai Restaurant was the biggest and most mysterious restaurant in the whole of Huaning County. Though Ye Qing’s family was rich and she loved showing off, she was also quite stingy and there was no way that she would reserve a VIP private room just to treat her classmates.
And there was no need for Xiao Haiqing and Jing Yunzhao to get involved in the celebration. All they had to do was to show up in the restaurant and make sure that they were spotted – not to show off, but to eliminate unnecessary gossip.
“Alright then, I shall treat,” Jing Yunzhao said with a smile. She was not really bothered about gossip but decided to go with Xiao Haiqing’s plan because she was her treasured friend.
“Don’t worry about it, you know I have the money,” said Xiao Haiqing cheekily and winked at her.
“I won’t come then,” Jing Yunzhao warned with a grin.
Xiao Haiqing’s eyes widened in surprise and her lips curved into a smile. Jing Yunzhao was as stubborn as a mule and would rather die than take advantage of someone, but Xiao Haiqing had grown to appreciate her independent nature.
“Fine, your treat then. Just make sure you won’t become broke because of it,” said Xiao Haiqing cheerfully.
Xiao Haiqing and Jing Yunzhao had gotten louder as they talked and Ms. Kim had been trying to let it go because of Jing Yunzhao, but as the conversation got merrier, Ms. Kim couldn’t let it slide and finally decided to call Xiao Haiqing out to solve a math problem on the whiteboard. The oddball Xiao Haiqing was somehow always able to solve math problems perfectly despite her bad results. After writing down the solution on the board perfectly, Xiao Haiqing walked back to her seat while Ms. Kim stared at her in amazement.
A genius and a weirdo. Ms. Kim shook her head in disbelief and went on teaching until the bell rang.
After a few classes, Ye Qing stood up with a smile.She waltzed around the classroom distributing invitations to everyone in the class except for the ten students with the lowest results and, of course, Jing Yunzhao.
“To my classmates who got an invitation, it is my birthday this Saturday and I made a reservation at Xiang Hai Restaurant. Please come celebrate with me if you are free – especially our class monitor, I will stop talking to you if you don’t come!” Ye Qing stood in front of the whole class and said shyly.
The way Ye Qing looked at the class monitor – Jiang Xia definitely had an admirer.
“Did you forget about Jing Yunzhao, Ye Qing?” Jiang Xia asked suddenly.
He had been paying close attention to Jing Yunzhao and noticed she seemed quite pitiful as the only friend in class she had was Xiao Haiqing. He was hoping that Jing Yunzhao would turn over a new leaf after his pep talk, but not only did Jing Yunzhao not change, she actually became worse and got into trouble with Lu Jia from Class 2.
Jing Yunzhao’s lips twitched. Some people were just so full of themselves; it was definitely a disease with no cure.
