Chapter 599: Chapter 599: Lead Trouble Away
Li Yao never expected these Ogres to be so persistent. He had run out of the town and they still sent people to chase him.
Fire Eagles were constantly hovering in the sky. Li Yao often chose the most accurate path to avoid being blocked by other monsters.
Li Yao ran for an hour, but ironically, the Fire Eagles could still spot the Ogres pursuing him with torches.
“They really have Hellhounds!” Li Yao couldn’t recall how many times he cursed. These Ogres were just relentless.
It would have been acceptable if it was daytime. But many skills couldn’t work properly at night.
It was getting more difficult to use the woods like he did during the day to mess with the Ogres.
After he transformed into the Ancient Elf Form, his night vision was immensely enhanced. There was no problem using a regular bow and arrow.
Yet, using a sniper rifle was quite challenging. It raised a question – how many arrows from a normal bow would it take to kill an Ogre with over a million health points?
Fighting and retreating with so many men was barely possible, especially without a sniper rifle.
“Such a shame, there is no way to improve night vision at low levels,” Li Yao mumbled, his thoughts twisted and tangled as he kept running.
He could use the Hearthstone to escape from the current situation, but returning to the coastal city would mean half a day of traveling, which could be quite bothering.
“Perhaps another quarter of an hour and I’ll reach the Devil Tyrannosaurus’ territory, then I should be able to get rid of the Ogres.” He estimated roughly. Even the Fire Eagle could only see vague mountainous shadows at this point.
The Fire Eagle suddenly spotted a bonfire in the distance. Flying over, Li Yao noticed one of the women was the female thief he had killed during the day. There were also several tents around her.
“A bunch of tents, this is getting interesting.”
It was different spending the night outdoors compared to spending it in an inn. When logging off at an inn, you are fully logged off unless the inn is destroyed. It is considered one of the safest ways to log off, as they provide safety comparable to that of city residences.
The advantage of logging off in this way is the experience addition buff it provides which significantly increases overnight.
Given the difficulties in leveling up in the Ancient God, it’s not just ordinary players, even top professional players wouldn’t miss the experience addition buff.
Li Yao is an exception; he does not care and logs off anytime and anywhere.
For example, if he logs off in the wilderness, no matter how many hours he stays offline, he won’t get the experience addition buff.
However, with the increase in levels, it isn’t feasible for players to return to city every day.
After all, some locations are very far away, and it would take half a day just to travel. Going back would be a waste of time and money.
As a consequence, campsites were set up in the wild and players stayed in tents. This provided even more experience buff than the inns did.
But this method also had its drawbacks. When logging off, the physical body does not disappear and remains in the tent.
It was extremely dangerous since the wild isn’t safe. If wild beasts attacked the tents, there would be nowhere to complain in case of death.
Li Yao, of course, knew that many guilds would set up more tents when creating a campsite, offering services similar to an inn.
They would be responsible for guard duty and security, in return for some Gold Coins.
Of course, such services didn’t exist yet.
The occupants of the tents that Li Yao saw were likely not logged off, but actually sleeping.
Li Yao immediately launched a Sonar Arrow, alerting those who were around the bonfire. He then slipped into the shadows and snuck into the camp.
“Overconfident, there’s no stealthy thief on watch. They’re just sitting by the bonfire and gossiping,” Li Yao didn’t know what to say. It would be a waste not to take advantage of such fools.
The Sonar Arrow had caused some noise. The five people around the bonfire instantly noticed the disturbance.
Li Yao couldn’t hear what they were saying, but after a few words, they casually got up and searched the darkness. Not seeing anything, they breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down by the fire.
They didn’t realize that Li Yao was already rampant in the middle of their camp, sitting behind a large tree amidst the shadows.
Of course, as he passed by the tents, Li Yao left a few of his Blue Equipment in the corners, each with his own scent.
“Ugh, they are not vigilant at all. This is so unsatisfying,” Li Yao was already sitting on a tree in the distance, eating and drinking to restore his physical energy and spirit.
After five minutes had passed, the players heard the noise again. This time it was louder.
A few people finally realized that something was wrong. The female thief entered stealth mode and headed for the line of defence where the noise was coming from, only to see a group of dozens of Ogres approaching.
“Damn it, everyone wake up. Two Ogre elites leading fifty Ogres are coming towards the camp,” the female thief’s words startled the sleeping players awake.
From afar, Li Yao saw the camp burst into chaos as many players tumbled out of their tents. Surprisingly, there were three or four hundred players, not the hundred or so he had initially estimated.
“Damn these men and women. They pair off and join together, this guild has absolutely no integrity,” Li Yao couldn’t help but curse.
No wonder Li Yao was cursing- all of them were paired as couples, which was quite rare. Moreover, they were all from the same guild. That’s what made his initial estimate wrong; he had assumed one tent housed at most one person.
There was chaos in the camp at first, then they started to form ranks. Clearly, they intended to wipe out the Ogres.
Li Yao understood why. Apart from personal belongings, their camp also contained other items, such as racks for drying pelts, various kinds of fresh meat, and some special fresh materials.
It was normal to have such items. Many items that needed to be harvested or collected required some processing to better preserve them and improve their quality, thus fetching a higher price.
Whether for personal use or sale, the prices were much higher than simply stuffing the items directly into backpacks.
That’s why many guild groups would bring along some craft-oriented players, or many players had their own secondary professions to process materials at the camp.
They still had time to run away, but if they did, they wouldn’t be able to take away today’s materials. Although not very intelligent, the Ogres certainly wouldn’t let go of these items.
Caught in this dilemma, they were unwilling to give up and prepared to fight.
The Hellhounds could feel Li Yao was nearby. This made things easier for the Ogres who considered the other players as Li Yao’s accomplices.
The two sides immediately engaged in a fierce battle, magic flying everywhere.
“This guild is quite strong. I didn’t expect that. How come I didn’t hear any fame about them before?”
Facing eighty Ogres is no joke, but this guild held on.
Despite suffering continual losses, the Ogres were also dying continuously. After all, their stats were equivalent to a boss, but in fact, they were just minions; they didn’t possess the characteristics of a boss in the wild, wherein the more players there are, the more drastic their stats become.
While Li Yao was marvelling at their strength, the guild leader was almost vomiting blood due to heavy losses. What’s the point of killing these Ogres? They lost so much experience.
Of course, he did not know that someone in the darkness was preparing to fish in troubled waters…
