“Thank you,” he said. “Thank you,” Jiang Yue whispered in reply while everyone else was out.
Xue Yan shook her head, “Listen…”
Li Hehua, had finished washing the dishes. She came over with a blanket. The blanket was very old, but it was clean. Li Hehua had just taken it out of the cupboard for the little girl.
“Xue Yan, you’re still young, so there’s no rush in learning to grow crops. There’s a lot of farm work at home that you can’t do now, so they want you to take care of her first. Don’t lose her.” Li Hehua said to Xue Yan in a warm voice while making the bed for Jiang Yue.
Xue Yan was speechless.
Since the adults had to go out to work, the older children would naturally take care of the younger children.
After that, they looked at each other.
Li Hehua didn’t seem to notice the awkwardness and continued, “Jiang Yue is only three and a half years old. She’s too young, so she needs to be raised and looked after. Anyway, you have to take care of her well. Jiang Yue is in your hands now.”
“Alright,” he said. Xue Yan could only agree after the ruckus he’d caused for his family.
Jiang Yue opened her small bag and took out all her clothes before placing them in the box.
Li Hehua made the bed and went out when she saw that there was nothing else she needed her help with.
Jiang Yue and Xue Yan followed suit.
In the courtyard, the pregnant Yu Hongyan was sitting under the cooking shed and picking beans. She picked out good beans to use as seeds. Xue Dafu and the others took their farming tools and were about to go on another expedition.

After everyone left, Xue Yan and Jiang Yue went to pick the beans for Yu Hongyan.
Yu Hongyan immediately laughed and chased them away.”Go and play. It’s just a few beans. I can handle it on my own. If I need anything, I’ll call for the both of you.”
Since Yu Hongyan was pregnant, the family did not let her do any hard work. However, Yu Hongyan still could not stay idle and so she insisted to do some light work.
Jiang Yue and Xue Yan had no choice but to leave.
They went to the central room.
There were a few large cloth bags in the corner of the central room. The bags were still open and not tied up. Without walking over, one could clearly see that they were filled with the rapeseed that had just been harvested from the field a few days ago.
There was also a square table in the middle of the room with four long benches. Xue Yan sat on one side, and Jiang Yue thought for a moment before she pushed herself onto the bench and sat on the other side.
