Chapter 449 448 - World Tournament(Part 7)

———————————————————————————

”And now it’s time for the second match of round two! Let’s see if this fight can match the intensity of the previous one, shall we? It’s Anlyth of Idyll versus Minise of the Rustlands!” Announced Belia with a grin.

Yeah, that last match has really gotten me all fired up and brimming with anticipation, I’m ready to do this! My opponent’s an Elf, and he doesn’t seem to be carrying any weapons…maybe he’s good at hand to hand combat?

There’s also Wind Magic and spell casting, so I can’t let my guard down just because he doesn’t have a weapon. I mean, I don’t have a weapon either…I used to carry chains, but after I gained the powers of the Undead King, I didn’t really need them anymore.

”Let’s get started…BEGIN!”

The Elf immediately shot towards me rapidly, wind swirling around his fist as he raced forward. As I entered my Undead Mode, I sent several wooden vines zipping towards him, before trying to grab hold of him as they closed in on him.

He swung his arms across to fire out wind slashes, which tore my vines apart, before blasting himself up into the air with a wind blast from his feet, and then blasting himself back down at an angle towards me, forming a wind blade along his palm.

I sprang back and fired out several ice projectiles from my knuckles at him, which he deflected with his wind blade, before suddenly turning invisible as he landed.

I immediately released an intense wave of heat around me, making it impossible to get too close to me without getting severely burnt…my Fire Magic is low in scale and output, but it has extremely high intensity. Just try getting closer, if you can!

I quickly summoned an Iceman as a wind blast suddenly came shooting towards me from behind, just in time as the monster took the hit for me. He’s keeping his distance thanks to the heat emanating from me, but he’s staying close enough that I can barely react to his attacks in time. I can’t let this continue.

As I then spotted a small piece of rubble shift in my left peripheral, I swiftly extended several vines out and began whipping them all around me, focusing several of them around the area to my left.

And almost immediately, I hit something, before grabbing hold of it with a couple of vines and swinging it across with as much force as I could generate, slamming it against the wall of the barrier.

The invisibility wore off upon impact, a pained look on the Elf’s face as I tightened my grip around his body…I really don’t want to damage him too much, I honestly thought that slam would have been enough to teleport him out.

I then began rapidly spinning him around the ring, not giving him the chance to activate a spell or use his Wind Magic, before using all the built up momentum to swing him down towards the floor of the arena as fast as I could…and this time, it worked, the safety barrier activating and teleporting him out.

I let out a sigh as I reverted back to my normal state, retracting my vines back to the wooden bands around my wrists. Good thing I was able to grab the Elf when I did, who knows what other tricks he might have had up his sleeve?

Man, invisibility is such a pain to go up against…in the end, the fact that I won that fight without too much more trouble was down to luck, simple as that. Otherwise, that could have ended up being a really annoying battle…

”The winner is…Minise of the Rustlands!”

———————————————————————————

Point-of-View: Lily Curran

———————————————————————————

”And now we’re on to match number three of round two, it’s Lily of the Rustlands versus Esta of Liberty! So far, the previous two competitors from the Rustlands that got to the second round have progressed on to the quarter-final round! Will this make it three in three for the Rustlands? Let’s find out!”

I don’t really care either way…but I won’t lose this, I’ll just end it right away using my finishing move again. I certainly won’t complain if I win this whole thing by spamming that attack…in fact, that’s pretty much the ideal outcome for me.

”Alrighty, then, let’s…BEGIN!”

”Take this, Poseidon’s Wrath!” I exclaimed, as I drove the prongs of my trident straight into the ground, summoning a massive wave of water.

As I used the power of my trident to avoid sinking and walk along the surface of the water, several purple blasts burst out, wiping out large amount of my water, before an immense heat suddenly exploded and burnt my skin, eliciting a cry of pain from me as I found myself plummeting.

What the-…did she turn my water into steam!? Damn it, how could I forget…she did the exact same thing against Lidui in the previous round! I hadn’t been paying much attention to any of the fights so far, but I do remember that move.

I have resistance to water-based attacks, so the sudden burst of steam didn’t do that much damage…but I was still in a fair bit of pain right now.

However, it looks like the same goes for her too…her right arm was badly burnt, she must have covered herself in a barrier, but still needed to make direct contact with my water to turn it into steam, and was forced to expose her right arm and hand.

I got back onto my feet and swung my trident around a couple of times, before firing out rapid water slashes at the Elf, who countered by firing out intense wind blasts, our attacks canceling each other out.

She then fired out an Obliteration Magic blast at me, which I batted away with my trident, before bracing myself as she rapidly shot towards me, drawing out her weapons, a pair of daggers with a chain connecting the handles.

As she began to close in on me, she sudden let go of her left dagger and tightened her grip on the right dagger, before rapidly swinging her right arm out…and whipping the left dagger towards my right.

As the blade sliced through the air towards me, I brought my trident up to my right defensively, aiming to block the dagger…when suddenly, she yanked her right arm back, pulling the dagger back right before it could hit my trident.

Huh? Did she bait me just now? Damn it, I fell for it!

She then swiftly sprang up and slammed a kick onto the left side of my head, which I managed to partially block with my left arm, but unable to fully blunt her strike.

I then gritted my teeth and drove the base of my trident handle towards her midsection, which she swiftly sprang over and landed along the length of the handle, before flinging one of her daggers straight at my head.

I tilted my head out of the way, grimacing as it grazed my cheek, before shaking her off my handle by swinging it up. As she sprang back and off of it, she suddenly flung her second dagger at the other side of my head, but missing…before abruptly vanishing from my sight.

My eyes widened in realization as I noticed the chain in front of me, connected to the daggers that had whizzed past either side of my head, as I simultaneously felt a presence behind me.

Before I could react, she grabbed both daggers and pulled them across each other, wrapping the chain around my neck before giving it a firm tug and upsetting my balance, as she swung my down and slammed my back onto the ground, the chain digging into my neck painfully as I let out a sharp gasp.

And in the next split second, she pointed her palm at me, formed an Obliteration Magic blast…and the next thing I knew, I was outside the barrier. Ow…my neck hurts, that’s gonna leave a mark.

”Another great battle comes to an end, that was pretty entertaining! And the winner is…Esta of Liberty!”

Well, whatever, I don’t really care…my participation in this tournament is over, and aside from being a little salty at all the pain I sustained in that last fight, I have no regrets. I’m really not even sure why exactly I participated at all, in the first place…
