Chapter 187: Camping With Mommy
The name that Alex had in mind for the next on his little visit to the campsite, which he planned to turn into a serene log cabin, was none other than his stepmother, Chae-Yeong. And when he said this, she was happy to spend some quality alone time with her beloved son.
By now a pattern had been established, and these women had come to suspect that Alex was going in order of his conquests. Thus, many of those who had been conquered later than the others had begun to feel a bit envious of the others who were going to come before them. But Alex did not even care about this. What mattered was showing his love to these women one at a time.
Now… Chae-Yeong was six months pregnant, and because of this, Alex did not allow her to make the hike on her own. Instead, he carried her on his back. This was not the easiest thing in the world. For starters, he had to give her his backpack, which weighed quite a bit in his own right. And carrying a hundred plus pounds’ worth of a pregnant woman, plus his gear up the hill, was a test of strength even for a man like Alex could be regarded as the pinnacle of physical fitness.
But ultimately, after a long and exhausting dredge up the hill, which appeared larger than it had before during this hike, Alex laid down his stepmother onto the grass of the campsite. Like her daughters, she was enamored with the natural beauty of the secluded cove. And was quick to comment on it.
“Oh, my…. It is so beautiful here…”
Alex simply smirked as he took a sip from his canteen and a bite from an energy bar before commenting on it.
“Indeed, it is, but all the more beautiful with your presence…”
This remark caused Chae-Yeong to blush slightly. She was beginning to think that Alex was drifting away from her, now that the man’s mother was back in his life. But it seemed he was still the same flatterer he always was. But before she could make a comment on this, Alex began to instruct the woman on her role in the campsite, which was the same that her two daughters had performed over the past two days.
Chae-Yeong immediately took interested in this, and walked called out to Alex, who after much hard work as needed a refill of his canteen. Once he chugged the whole thing and asked for seconds, Chae-Yeong finally asked him what he was doing.
“What exactly are you doing with those logs? They look so weird at the end…”
Alex smirked as he pointed out to the very precise and specific cuts he had made in the logs after measuring them with his tape measure. He then began to explain what he had done and why.
“Those cuts are for fitment. You see, in America, there is a toy for children called Lincoln Logs. They are basically wooden blocks that have special cuts at the end. Those cuts make it so you can construct a miniature log cabin without anything like nails. The same principles apply to what I’m doing, albeit things are far more precise for a proper seal tight fitting, and the grooves are throughout the bottom and tops of the logs.”
Chae-Yeong was astonished by what Alex had said. She had no idea such a thing could be done and was about to ask another question when Alex walked off and began to work on the rest of his logs. It was not until dinnertime that Alex had succeeded in his attempts. And had fully constructed the front facing wall. Which had a special cutout for the door frame which he had attached to the foundation earlier in the day.
Eventually, Alex sighed and stretched. Having completed a day’s worth of work, he grabbed his wooden hunting spear and went off to find some food. Which after two hours of absence, he returned with a red jungle fowl. Alex was particularly happy about this find, because he could use the feathers of the bird to help fashion some arrows, which until now was the one thing he was missing for his future fletching projects.
After all, Alex had the wood, the stone, the animal sinew, and the hide glue to make arrows, and a primitive flatbow, for that matter. What he was lacking, however, was the bird feathers to attach to the back of the arrows to stabilize the arrow’s flight.
Thus, he carefully plucked the feathers from the red jungle fowl, ensuring that each could be used in the construction of an arrow before gutting the bird and cooking it in his clay oven. After ensuring it was fully cooked, Alex shared the bird with his stepmother, who couldn’t help but comment on the creature.
“Oh, my… It tastes like chicken!”
Alex nodded his head before explaining the relationship between red jungle fowl and chicken.
“That’s correct. In fact, it is believed that the modern chicken is descended from the first domesticated red jungle fowl. This rooster may not be as big as one you’d find on a farm, but the meat is basically the same, albeit a bit more gamey.”
Chae-Yeong blushed when she heard this. As much as she loved her son, she never really considered him a smart man. Sure, he was going through college, but she did not expect him to have such knowledge of such obscure subjects. This caused her to compliment him.
“My baby boy is so smart! Just wait until I shove this in all those hags’ faces!”
Alex’s brow raised slightly when he heard this, as he asked his stepmother just what the hell she was talking about.
“I’m sorry, what hags?”
Chae-Yeong only now realized she said something she shouldn’t have and was quick to explain to Alex what she was talking about.
“It’s nothing… It’s just that… Ever since you had your fun with the women of the neighborhood, they have been begging me to pimp you out to them… Naturally, as your mother, I could never do such a thing! You do still think of me as your mother, right?”
Alex nodded his head without realizing the insecurity in his stepmother’s eyes. And was just about to make a quick and not so reassuring comment until he looked over at her while gnawing on a jungle fowl wing. When he saw the look in the woman’s eyes, he was quick to put his food down and hug her, all the while saying the words she definitely needed to hear.
“Is this about Diana… Just because I have accepted that woman back into my life, doesn’t mean that you have to fear anything.. I might call her mom, but our relationship will never be what it once was. She abandoned me, and though I may have finally come to terms with that fact, she will never be my mommy. The woman I look to for warmth and comfort when my entire world is falling around me. Only you can fulfill that role.
You took me in, a motherless boy on the verge of adulthood, and treated me like a proper son. You didn’t have to do that. Most women in your shoes would have just gone through the waves until I was old enough to kick out of her home. Yet you were there for me, even when I began to fuck your daughters. You were among the first to support me in this life, and I will never forget that, mommy…”
Chae-Yeong broke out into tears, but not of sorrow, rather of joy when she heard her son say this, as he leaned into his arms and wept in them. Her remarks made Alex chuckle while he stroked her raven hair.
“I love you son… No matter what happens in this life, I will always be here for you!”
A warm smile emerged on Alex’s face as he chuckled while wiping the tears from the woman’s black eyes.
“Thanks mommy…”
After saying this, Alex and Chae-Yeong kissed beneath the full moon, which, aside from the fire in front of them, was the sole source of illumination on this dark and cloudy night.
