A servant had informed Selena about Alex arrival. It's been days since she had last met her dashing and handsome Junior Brother. So she eagerly changed into her favorite dress which she had just newly bought and gone down to chat with Alex.
Since childhood, Selena never had any real friends of her age. Not that she didn't want to but all her peers that she had met were mostly after finding relations with her father through her like some of the children's of Noble and Merchant family.
This, she had come to know a long time ago. Even the disciples of her father would either try curry favor her or be too afraid to speak with her, fearing that they would offend her father. There was always some distance between them.
To pass her time she would mostly read a lot of books or either cultivates her fighting skills.
The only people she found comfortable to talk with are Alex and his future wife, Anna.
As she walked down the stairs, Selena was quite satisfied seeing Alex funny expression. Unlike others, she only saw him appreciating her beauty, well maybe this thought was a bit biased in her head but she still enjoyed it.
"Junior brother, have you not seen a beauty. Stop looking at me like that." Selena thought of teasing him a little.
Alex did not react for a while, as if he was in a trance.
Her face was glowing like a bright moon and she had a slim waist, well-developed chest, and nice posture. She was wearing an exquisite lavender robe which couldn't cover her fascinating figure as a legendary wild vixen.
Alex focused on her hot body and thought that she was more beautiful than the most popular superstars in his world.
He couldn't stop his eyes from wandering.
"Alex" she called out again after seeing him unresponsive.
"Oh. Senior Sister Selena, you said something." Alex also quickly reacted this time.
"Nothing. Come, let's sit down first. Father is busy today; he is refining some pills right now so it will take some time"
For some time, they talked about things that happened in their day to day life.
Alex had unintentionally asked about her families like mother and grandparents.
This caused Selena to get a little bit emotional and her eyes dimmed a little.
Alex immediately knew that he had asked something which he shouldn't have.
It was fortunate that Selena adjusted her emotions quickly. But she kept staring into space in a daze; her bright eyes had dimmed and were filled with loneliness.
"Junior Brother Alex"
"Huh?"
"Why do think we have wars?"
'Uh…wars?'
He had never really thought about it. People would frequently fight over profits, reputation and even a simple matter of pride. Kingdoms fought over power, benefits, and lands. Wars would frequently break out without warning.
He answered, "Because humans are always controlled by desire. They would seek to dominate and pillage, and that is why they fight against each other."
"Senior Sister Selena" Alex was not dumb so he knew that her loved ones should have died in a war or something.
"Hmm?"
"You must have loved them very much."
"Yes." She replied: "When my grandfather and grandmother passed away, my father had always taken good care of me, and was really proud of me even though I couldn't awaken my soul to use spiritual sense and become an Alchemist like him."
"But I loved them too, so very much."
"...Selena, have you ever thought about becoming a Lord to protect this land?" Alex said so as to change the topic a little.
"How's that possible, Alex, are you trying to make fun of me?" The young girl was a little angry, but her voice became quiet again: "I just want to be a good person. But my powers are only this much, and only this little. To help common people… As for becoming a Noble Lord, that's too far away and I can't reach that destination."
"Thanks." She whispered back: "Shameless Alex."
Alex started to cough and choke.
When he looked back in protest, he saw that her eyes had returned to its former brightness, and it was shining like the brightest night star in the sky. Alex suddenly felt an urge to embrace her.
They had become a lot closer now and Selena started to open up more. Alex said some jokes that were famous in his previous world which caused Selena to again tear up by laughing constantly.
"Alex, please stop. My stomach has started to hurt…puff,hahahha"
"How come, let me say another one. One time there was…." Alex, of course, didn't stop and continued to say some of the hilarious jokes that would be understandable to the people in this medieval world.
Even the maids and servants who were serving them with snacks and drinks also couldn't stop laughing themselves.
Master Clayton who had just finished his work came out of the pill chamber, only to hear his daughter's laughter echoing through the manor.
He even heard some other people laughing.
'Have they gone crazy' he thought as quickly entered the main hall where voices were coming from.
Master Clayton pleasantly surprised today. It was the first time he saw his daughter laughing with so much joy without any constraint.
He was standing by the door as he didn't want to interrupt but he soon got infected by jolly mood.
"Master!" One of the maids involuntarily exclaimed as she saw her Master had entered the hall at some point.
"HAHAHA, no need to stop now, carry on. Alex, I didn't know you could entertain so well. This is the first time I saw my daughter like this" Master Clayton said as he sat on his chair beside Alex and Selena.
Alex did some standup comedy for the next hour and had to finally stop because he saw Selena almost faint by laughing so much.
It was getting late so he took his leave from Master Clayton's manor.
"My daughter, come to my study. I want to talk to you about something." Master Clayton said to his daughter who was standing at the gates, lost in her own thoughts after Alex left.
By the time Alex reached home, Anna had already prepared most of the dishes to eat for dinner.
Alex suddenly remembered that Anna's 15th birthday was in the next month. This birthday would be special because on that day she was going to be considered as an adult in this world. He needs to prepare a gift for her as this birthday was going to be very special.
Boys are mostly given some money to go and experience a woman to celebrate becoming an adult. Girls are usually married to someone at this age, and this is what usually happens in common mortal families.
Whereas the Noble's and rich merchant families celebrate their children's fifteenth birthday by organizing a banquet and inviting other people with comparable status as guests.
Alex had thrown these thoughts at the back of his mind for now and started to have dinner with his family.
