Chapter 333: Wrath of the Lich King (Part ) When Arthas returned to Lordaeron, Kel'Thuzad had already recaptured Naxxramas. However, due to a lack of troops, Kel'Thuzad had to drive Naxxramas back to Northrend to replenish his troops. The Death Knights of Acherus already had a certain combat capability, so Arthas ordered Darion to disrupt the Hand of Tyr behind the Silver Dawn. What he didn't expect was that the Alliance and the Horde had their own ideas about how to attack the Scourge. There were even different opinions within the Alliance and the Horde. On the Alliance side, Varian sent Bolvar to lead the army and accepted Tirion's command. They drew most of the troops within the kingdom, and even formed a legion in the unstable West Wilderness to participate in this Northern Expedition. Dwarves and gnomes sent out armies to fight alongside humans. The night elves went directly into Northrend to find their ally, the bear monsters. As a result, they found that the bear monsters were fighting the frost trolls, so the night elves were tied up by the bear monsters and missed most of the battle. The Horde was even more rebellious. The two sides fought fiercely, and Arthas alone killed hundreds of brave warriors. Just as Tirion issued an order to launch the final decisive battle, a group of Forsaken appeared on a nearby cliff. They threw a large number of poison gas bombs onto the battlefield, killing the soldiers and undead of the coalition forces without distinguishing between friend and foe.
Arthas was also corroded by the poison gas and had to retreat to the Gate of Retribution to treat his injuries.
