By the way, the current army is divided into four divisions. Each division was led by one god tamer, and I’m part of Goddess Blanc’s division, with the rest of it filled with 8th-stage tamers and monsters.
Anyway, each division was further divided into four brigades, which were then further divided into 8 battalions each. With this configuration, we can command the army more efficiently since the groups are already predetermined.
As we marched onward, we were following a long column formation, making sure that we were not overlooking anything. The column was one brigade thick, with a total of 128 brigades lined up across.
“Move fast, come on! We’ll be left behind if we’re slow!”
As everyone moved forward, Blanc’s brigade members were setting up Demon-weakening arrays every 500 meters. This is done since we would want to have a relatively safer retreat and also to mark the land that we would be claiming later.
The march proceeded onward without much trouble for about 10 kilometers. There, when we finally reached the vicinity of the Old Capital, we finally had our first encounter.
“God-level Demon ahead! Number… it’s alone!”
The scouts, led by God Ajax, quickly reported back.
As soon as the news reached us, we quickly straightened up. I took a deep breath and shouted my command, which was being sent to the entire army with Goddess Blanc’s help.
“Everyone, listen up! There’s a high chance that this one’s just bait, so be watchful of your blindspots!”
I pointed forward, at God Zeshion’s division, and commanded.
“Zeshion Division, you lead the charge! Ajax and Vermeil Divisions would flank it, while Blanc Division would stay at the back and watch over the situation! Let’s go!”
The entire army moved as a single unit, following my commands. Zeshion quickly engaged the large undead-dragon-shaped demon. He moved as if he didn’t fear it at all and even dragged the other god-level monsters behind him along with his charge. The rest of the division could only rush forward, trying to catch up.
“Take this!”
With a surprise attack, Zeshion landed a solid hit with his sword. The god-level demon roared in pain, but no blood flowed. After all, it was an undead.
*GRAAAAAAGH!*
Realizing the presence of the attacker a step too late, the dragon raised an angry howl. The wind coming from its mouth smelled foul, making Zeshion and the others frown in disgust.
“Beta, Gamma!”
Zeshion called to his monsters, letting them attack from both sides. Since the undead dragon was large, it was easy to hit! A powerful water blade and gigantic, raging tree roots assaulted the demon from both sides, causing it to be unable to focus on Zeshion.
“Don’t forget about us!”
Vermeil quickly joined in, her fiery fist landing straight at the demon’s face, burning it. A moment later, an invisible blade of wind crossed its body, cutting off the two wings on its back. Ajax appeared, a hand in his jumper pockets as he glared at the demon.
“This is too much for a single piece of garbage.”
As he said, having such a large army handle the demons was a little bit excessive. It was so excessive, in fact, that the demon fell in seconds! Furthermore, nobody has used a large fraction of their power; they were all mostly holding back.
“As they say, there is strength in numbers!”
The first god-level demon was safely dispatched!
Furthermore, the spent energy was at its minimum, with the used bullets totaling zero. It was practically an overwhelming victory for us.
“Warning! Multiple god-level demons are approaching! They’re coming from all directions! Number: more than a dozen and increasing!”
When the scouts once more announced the presence of demons, everyone’s faces turned dark.
Right, this one god-level demon was just bait, and to us, it was nothing but a warmup. The real battle is just about to start!
“Retreat 500 paces! Don’t let them surround us!”
I quickly shouted an order before moving. As long as we’re not completely surrounded, we can still handle this many demons effortlessly. However, if they did manage to outmaneuver us and surround the army, then we’d end up using excessive strength just to break through.
Without delay, everyone moved back 500 paces as instructed. With everyone’s speed, such a distance can be covered in seconds.
As soon as the retreat was complete, I shouted another command.
“Crane Wing Formation!”
As previously discussed, the army moved from a flanking formation to a more spread-out one. It was like a large, spread, U-shape formation, creating a “bowl” that the enemy would move toward. Once there, they would become the perfect target from all directions, rendering them unable to defend against the attacks.
In the middle of the formation was Zeshion’s and Blanc’s battalion as one, with Ajax taking the left and Vermeil to the right. The most power was concentrated at the tips and the vertex of the parabolic-shaped formation!
“Enemy in sight!”
When another report came in, everyone turned to look at the sky. There, more of the undead-dragon god-level demons were flying toward us. They were in a delta formation, with the biggest one among them leading the charge.
“Ready to fire!” 𝑖𝘦𝑎.𝗇t
Of course, we aren’t really required to wait for the enemy to come close before attacking. With my command, all the tamers quickly prepared to use their guns, the assault rifles, and held them in a firm grip.
“Take aim…”
I waited until the demons were in range of the guns before waving my hand down with a hearty shout.
“FIRE!”
*RATTATATATAT!*
The guns were all set in full auto, and the bullets flew into the sky, covering it completely with glowing dots. The biggest of the undead dragons managed to create a protective barrier in time, blocking the attacks heading for it, but the rest weren’t as lucky.
They got hit by the bullets, their bodies ravaged by the Cursed Ore casing and the explosion of the energies packed within the bullets. Among the 30 or so god-level demons, only about 10 of them managed to stay afloat!
“Cease fire! Change armaments to melee!”
At that point, it was already too close for another shower of bullets, so I made everyone prepare for battle. This time, we’re fighting multiple demons at once!
