The heavens above Mount Meru shifted as the 13th day arrived. The crowd were heavy with anticipation, the skies roiling with an unnatural intensity.
Across the Spirit World, glass orbs glowed ominously, broadcasting live images of the mountain where Kent and the baby dragon were enveloped within a protective cocoon-like membrane.
Those who watched couldn’t comprehend why the divine tribulations, a phenomenon reserved for Old Gods, were descending upon a mortal and an evolving beast.
The time passed and first tribulation began with loud rumbling of red skies.
First Tribulation – The Scarlet Blaze…
The skies turned a deep crimson, and the sun vanished as if swallowed by the abyss. The first tribulation manifested as a storm of flaming meteors that rained down with deafening roars. Each meteor was imbued with divine fire, capable of obliterating anything in its path. The fiery rain engulfed the cocoon on Mount Meru, the flames licking at its surface.
Inside, Kent sat cross-legged, his face pale but resolute. He whispered to the baby dragon, Sparky, “Hold on, little one. This is just the beginning.”
The cocoon absorbed the brunt of the attack, but cracks began to form along its surface. Each strike burned Kent’s skin, yet he focused on circulating his inner mana, shielding Sparky as best he could.
Second Tribulation – The Silver Frost
Moments after the flames subsided, the skies shifted to a brilliant silver. The temperature plummeted, and the air froze mid-motion. Blades of ice formed spontaneously in the sky, raining down like crystalline daggers. The freezing aura seeped into the cocoon, threatening to sap their life force.
Kent gritted his teeth as the frost coated his body. He channeled his lightning energy, creating a thin barrier to keep the dragon warm. His voice was barely audible, “Everything will pass. Just… endure.”
The baby dragon shivered, its body glowing faintly as it absorbed some of the frost, beginning its transformation into a being capable of withstanding extremes.
Third Tribulation – The Golden Tempest
The frost gave way to a golden tempest. A hurricane of divine winds lashed at the cocoon, each gust imbued with sharp slivers of golden light. These winds shredded through the outer membrane of the cocoon like razors, leaving both Kent and Sparky exposed.
Sparky let out a weak cry, its scales peeling away under the relentless assault. Kent spread his arms wide, standing between the winds and the dragon. Blood dripped from countless cuts on his body, but he refused to step back.
Across the Spirit World, Demi-Gods and other beings watched in awe. One Demi-God muttered, “A mortal facing the Golden Tempest… This is madness.”
The Space God, watching from his celestial palace, sipped his wine nervously. His wife’s face was pale. “He’s enduring this? Impossible,” she whispered.
Fourth Tribulation – The Violet Surge
The winds dissipated, replaced by an eerie silence. The sky turned violet, and a wave of pulsating energy surged down, shaking the very ground of Mount Meru. The energy storm threatened to crush everything in its wake.
Kent roared, summoning the eternal lotus to shield Sparky. The flower trembled under the surge but held its ground. Kent channeled his remaining strength, redirecting the energy into himself. His veins bulged, glowing faintly as his body absorbed the energy.
“This isn’t enough,” he growled.
Fifth Tribulation – The Azure Flood
The violet storm gave way to an azure flood. Water rained from the heavens, not ordinary water but liquid imbued with the essence of destruction. The ground around the mountain disintegrated wherever the liquid touched.
The cocoon began to disintegrate entirely under the flood, leaving Sparky exposed. The baby dragon cried out in agony, its body flickering with weak energy. Kent held the dragon tightly, channeling the Nirvanic flames within him to protect them both.
“Hold on! Your evolution depends on this!” Kent shouted, his voice breaking under the strain.
Sixth Tribulation – The Black Void
Darkness consumed the sky, blotting out all light. The Black Void tribulation was a test of will, targeting the minds of those enduring it. The pressure of infinite emptiness bore down on Kent and Sparky, threatening to break their spirits.
Inside his mind, Kent heard the poison god’s mocking voice, “You’ll fail, just like everyone else who dared face me.”
Kent clenched his fists. “Shut up, you dead insect,” he spat back into the void. Sparky let out a defiant roar, its first sign of resistance.
Seventh Tribulation – The Crimson Inferno
The darkness receded, replaced by a crimson inferno. Lava rained from the heavens, the very air turning to fire. Kent’s body began to burn, his skin peeling away with every second. Sparky’s cries grew weaker as it struggled to endure.
“This is your path to becoming an ancient beast, Sparky,” Kent said, his voice shaking. “Prove you’re worthy.”
-Eighth Tribulation – The White Thunder
The lava vanished, replaced by blinding white lightning. Bolts the size of mountains struck the peak of Mount Meru, shaking the entire Spirit World. The cocoon shattered completely, and Sparky’s form was revealed.
The baby dragon let out an ear-splitting roar, its body growing rapidly. Its dull scales were replaced by shimmering, ancient black scales laced with golden veins. Wings sprouted from its back, large enough to cover the mountain. Its eyes burned like molten fire, and its claws glowed with deadly energy.
Across the Spirit World, Demi-Gods and Gods trembled. The Space God’s wife clutched his arm. “What is that thing? It’s not just a dragon—it’s something ancient.”
Ninth Tribulation – The Primal Calamity
The skies turned a deep blood red, and all the elements—fire, water, earth, wind, and lightning—converged into one massive attack aimed at Sparky. This was the Primal Calamity, meant to destroy anything unworthy of godhood.
Sparky spread its massive wings, roaring defiantly. Its aura exploded outward, sending shockwaves across the Spirit World. Kent, though weakened, stood beside it, his hand on its massive claw.
“You’ve come this far, Sparky,” Kent whispered. “Finish it.”
Sparky unleashed a beam of energy from its mouth, clashing with the tribulation. The impact shook the heavens, and the Primal Calamity dissipated. The dragon stood victorious, its aura so intense that even the Gods watching from afar couldn’t hide their fear.
As the skies cleared, Sparky’s evolved form stood tall—a being of pure majesty and terror. Its presence alone sent shockwaves through the Spirit World. Glass orbs everywhere showed the dragon’s transformation, leaving mortals and immortals alike in awe.
Kent, exhausted, leaned against Sparky’s claw. “You did it… You really did it.”
The dragon lowered its massive head, nuzzling Kent gently. It was a moment of pure triumph, one that would be remembered across all realms for eternity.
