Chapter 683 - 683: Failed Attempt

Seventh Realm…

The Palace Master, flanked by an elite force of soldiers, rode toward the distant No man’s island. It was the place renamed by Kent as the Forbidden City of Dragon lord.

The entire sworn wizard’s forces were staying in this No Man Island, preparing for a battle.

The destination loomed on the horizon, an isolated land mass housing one of the biggest inter-realm teleportation gates.

The search for inter-realm teleportation gates almost reached an end. Only the one inside No Man Island, which was built only for Kent was not verified. Due to the barrier, they avoided No man island till now. But only this place left at the end.

That’s why the palace master brought elite wizards today. The air was heavy with unease as the troop approached the rocky shores of the river. Even the river birds that normally circled the island had vanished, leaving only the sound of the waves crashing against jagged rocks.

The Palace Master halted his chariot, narrowing his eyes at the strange shimmer that outlined the entire island. This was the barrier left by Kent. It’s still intact even after months.

“Get in formation,” he commanded, dismounting gracefully. The soldiers obeyed swiftly, their steel boots crunching over the pebbled ground as they arranged themselves in disciplined lines.

Two soldiers stepped forward, raising their palms to perform the initial contact spell that typically signaled the island city guardians to lower the protective barrier.

But there is no response from inside. The palace master lost patience and ordered the soldiers to use the talisman.

The soldiers took out big curtain like talisman. A soft golden light emanated from their hands, dancing in spirals toward the faintly visible wall of magic that surrounded the island.

The light struck the barrier with a faint hum—and fizzled out instantly.

The Palace Master’s brow furrowed. “Try again,” he ordered, his tone calm but sharp.

The soldiers repeated the spell. This time, they intensified the energy output, causing the golden spirals to grow larger, but the result was the same. The magic simply evaporated as if absorbed by the barrier itself.

“There’s no response from the inside, sir,” one soldier reported hesitantly, lowering his hands.

The Palace Master stepped closer, studying the barrier. It flickered faintly, a near-transparent wall that stretched up to the heavens, its surface rippling softly like water disturbed by the wind.

“This isn’t ordinary,” the Palace Master murmured. He raised his hand, calling forth a sharp spear of blue light that crackled at his fingertips. Without hesitation, he thrust the spear toward the barrier. The magical construct hissed upon contact, but to the surprise of all, the spear disintegrated mid-air.

Murmurs spread among the soldiers. Some exchanged nervous glances while others tightened their grips on their weapons.

One of the captains stepped forward, bowing respectfully. “Palace Master, with your permission, I can assemble the elite magi to launch a full assault on the barrier. Perhaps combined force will weaken it enough to pass through.”

The Palace Master nodded. “Proceed.”

Within minutes, a row of ten elite magi positioned themselves along the front line, their robes billowing as they began to chant in unison. Arcane symbols glowed beneath their feet, and a swirling vortex of magic coalesced above their heads. The soldiers stepped back as the pressure in the air thickened.

“Release!” the lead magus shouted. Enjoy exclusive chapters from My Virtual Library Empire

A barrage of fire, lightning, and raw energy cascaded toward the barrier in a synchronized strike. The very ground trembled from the power unleashed, and the air buzzed with the residual crackle of magic.

But as the smoke cleared, the barrier remained untouched.

“It’s… not even scratched,” one of the soldiers whispered in disbelief.

The Palace Master’s expression darkened, but he showed no outward sign of frustration. He simply stared at the shimmering wall, as if attempting to decipher the enigma that lay beyond it.

“It’s not a simple defense spell,” the Palace Master finally said. “This is ancient magic, the likes of which we have not seen in generations.”

The lead magus approached cautiously. “What shall we do, sir?”

The Palace Master exhaled slowly, his gaze lingering on the barrier for a few moments longer. “We return to the palace. The Emperor must be informed about this situation. Let’s go…”

Reluctantly, the soldiers lowered their weapons, retreating from the shores. As they marched away from the island, a silent tension followed them, lingering like a shadow. None of them spoke as they left the no man’s island behind, its mysteries still hidden beneath the shimmering veil of magic.

No Man Island… inside the barrier…

A sudden gust of wind rustled the cloaks of the Fist Faction wizards stationed near the barrier. One of them, a burly man with a scar running across his cheek, rose to his feet, sensing a disturbance created by royal wizards. His name was Gorin, a veteran of countless battles and one of the most trusted members of the sworn wizards.

Moments later, Gorin strode into the war council chamber, where Madam Clark and Supreme Sword Magus Elarin stood over an ancient map laid across a stone table. Torches flickered along the walls, casting long shadows that danced in rhythm with the pulses of magic around them.

“Madam Clark,” Gorin began, his voice gravelly yet steady, “the royal wizards of the Seventh Realm have come. They attempted to breach the barrier.”

Madam Clark barely lifted her gaze from the map, her fingers tracing invisible patterns along its surface. “How many?” she asked, her tone devoid of concern.

“A full unit. Led by the palace master himself,” Gorin replied. “They struck the barrier with everything they had, but it didn’t budge. The royal wizards seemed puzzled, unsure of how to proceed. Eventually, they retreated to report back.”

Supreme Sword Magus Elarin let out a faint chuckle, arms folded as he leaned against a marble pillar. “Amateurs. They don’t understand what they’re dealing with.”

Gorin’s brow furrowed. “Shall we pursue them? A warning might send a message.”

Madam Clark raised a hand, silencing the thought. “No,” she said firmly. “Let them go. It matters little if the Seventh Realm knows we’re here. By the time they mount a proper assault, this island will be an unbreakable fortress.”

Gorin nodded, though his warrior instincts craved more action. “As you wish. The Fist Faction remains ready should you reconsider.”

Clark turned her eyes to him, her gaze sharp and unwavering. “Focus on fortifying the island. Reinforce the kill zones and ensure the spell threads are woven tightly along the outer edge. I want every inch of this place to bleed magic. When the army arrives, they won’t breach this barrier easily—if at all.”

Elarin stepped forward, his eyes glinting beneath the torchlight. “And if they do break through, they’ll find nothing but their own graves waiting.”

Madam Clark’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smile. “Precisely.”
