In NASA, a middle-aged man in a white coat was stroking a sealed vessel with a black liquid substance inside. “This is really beautiful!” the man said as he stared at the black liquid that wriggled around inside the vessel.
“Sorry, although it wouldn’t be good news, the country has brought back so many sludges for your entertainment, but where is the result!” the major general said with a frown on his face.
“Did you hear yourself just now? This is an extra-terrestrial lifeform from an unknown planet! Their value can’t be measured by money, and result? You will get it eventually!” Dr Herland said coldly. “But, if you want the result so bad, you better talk to the officials or congressman and see if I can get my human lab rat soon! That way, I can stuff this black liquid and proceed with my project!” Dr Herland said indifferently.
The major furrowed his brows even more as he knew that it would be tough to do that. Dr Herland was a biology researcher who previously studied the Chitauri’s corpses. He was extremely knowledgeable and irreplaceable! But it was still not a good idea to offend a major general like this! Dr Herland was aware of that as well, so he apologised a little and reported back the progress of his project.
“After our initial observation and experiment, this alien organism couldn’t adapt to Earth environment that was brimming with oxygen! But we discovered their parasitic trait and had them live inside a living organism. As it turns out, they can live on earth inside a host!” Dr Herland said excitedly.
He then picked up the vessel and connected it to another vessel that has a small rabbit inside it. The black liquid started to wriggle and stuck itself to the poor rabbit. But within a few second, the rabbit began to turn violent and exploded before the black liquid wriggled itself back to its vessel.
The major general was horrified by what happened to the rabbit as he realised that the black liquid was a strange parasite that could easily kill its host! “So, these mud are parasite? Isn’t it a harmful parasite right now?” the major said worriedly.
“No, it may seem dangerous right now, but these creatures need to latch on the right host in order to coexist in our oxygen-rich environment. What happened with the rabbit earlier was an intense rejection reaction. Let just say it’s something similar to the human body rejecting an organ transplant that wasn’t compatible.” Dr Herland said casually.
“Doctor, I am here right now to know what these things are worth! I don’t care about your academic report. I need to know what these things can do!” the Major said with a frown on his face.
The crash of Life One spacecraft has put tremendous pressure on the military. After all, it was billions of dollars project with no result to bring back. It was impossible for the country to not do anything when a lot of money was gone like this. They need to take a measure to reduce the probability of the public knowing anything about this project.
If billions of dollars were gone like this, it would raise suspicion, and it wouldn’t take long for the opposite party to take advantages of this opportunity. Now, someone has to stand up and make a decision whether to cut the project off of the government budget or keep going.
Obviously, the major general was the one signed up to carry out that task! With that said, the major must figure out if these black sludge had any merit for the military. If he deemed it unnecessary for the military, he should cut it to save the budget.
That includeD whether or not Dr Herland could satisfy his curiosity. If Dr Herland couldn’t do that, he would be living on the street as the government would take away all of his property!
Dr Herland gritted his teeth as he knew that all his life’s worth depended on this project!
“Space Warrior! This is the name I gave to our next plan on the project. Since this creature can adapt to our environment through symbiotic means, it could be inferred that humans would also take advantage of this symbiosis in the hope of surviving on the alien’s planet without any equipment! Once this alien creature can find a compatible host, it will definitely give us a greater understanding and probably even give us access to a super soldier that surpassed the super-soldier serum of Captain America!” Dr Herland said excitedly.
Dr Herland knew that he shouldn’t exaggerate unproven speculation, but he was out of ideas! He had to give the major a plausible reason to give his project a go so that it wouldn’t be cut off from the budget. He would do anything for that!
“Hmm, Space Warrior? I could see the worth behind it. Okay, Dr Herlan, I will write a relevant report for this project, so report every progress you have made so far. I believe your project won’t be cut off from the country budget anytime soon.” The major said with a wide smile on his face.
