That was an extremely dark and evil item.
Dark Wizards, fearing Death, would split their souls by committing murder to create Horcruxes, thereby escaping Death.
In the original story, the infamous Lord Voldemort created seven Horcruxes for himself in one go.

Before formally writing down the method for creating a “Blood Horcrux,” the notes spent a great deal of space recording a legendary story called “Death's Godfather”—
The legend says that a long, long time ago, a farmer had a son late in life and cherished this hard-won son very much.
Upon hearing his son's first cry, the farmer vowed to find the best godfather for him.
He left his farmhouse, walked down the road ahead, and successively refused several men who wanted to be his child's godfather.
Finally, he met Death. Death said that he was willing to be the child's godfather.

His godfather, Death, was not there.
He then looked at the foot of the bed.
His godfather, Death, was standing at the foot of the bed, shaking his head at him.
He knew the old king's life was short.
However, the title offered by the old king dazzled the young man's eyes.
Although he was already very wealthy, his ancestors had been farmers for generations.
The young man greatly longed to obtain this title.
So, for the first time in his life, he disobeyed the guidance given by his godfather, Death, and had people swap the head and foot of the old king's bed.
Thus, the head of the bed became the foot, and the foot of the bed became the head. Death's godfather now stood at the head of the old king's bed.
The young man put the herbal water into the old king's mouth.
Afterward, he saw Death, with a cold face, disappear from the head of the bed.
The old king's illness quickly improved.
The king was overjoyed and gave the young man the title he had promised, as well as the territory corresponding to the title.
Only Death, after the young man returned home, scolded him severely:
“Did you forget what I told you? How could you forcibly keep those who were meant to die?”
