Chapter 505: Chapter 505: The Terrifying High Priest
“Damn, I’m exhausted. I can’t take it anymore.” The Guardian Angel dropped to the ground with a total lack of dignity.
The rest of the group was no better. Aside from the Spider Tank, all the tanks had collapsed to the ground, including the Fruit Knight who, though he said nothing, was gasping for breath on the ground.
The damage dealers weren’t faring better either. They had been fighting non-stop for fifteen hours without any rest. If it weren’t for the Blessing Scrolls they had used, relieving them of worrying about their mana, they would’ve succumbed to exhaustion just from seeing their mana run out, let alone being swarmed by centaurs.
“This is so hard, pushing through in one go. Even we took almost a whole day and night. Not to mention the exhaustion.” Unparalleled Seductress commented.
“I’m disappointed in you guys.” Li Yao sighed.
“Big Brother, what are you talking about? Didn’t we make it up here already?” The naive Tongtong asked, confused.
“Hahaha, you fools, completely fooled by some simple tricks.” The Centaur Priest bellowed with laughter. “Look how pathetic you all are, tricked by some Dream Mirage illusions. Now look at the state you’re all in. How are you going to fight me after exhausting yourselves this way? I’m starting to regret it, you’re all too foolish, not even worthy of being sacrifices for the gods.”
First, it was Li Yao, then this Priest. The team members were all confounded, and they all looked toward Li Yao.
“What on earth is going on?” Feng Yi asked.
Li Yao replied, “Just check your experience points.”
“Experience points.” Unparalleled Seductress was taken aback before confirming. “That’s not right. I came here at level 20 with 15% experience. Why is it still the same? It hasn’t changed at all.”
“Mine is the same.”
“Same here. It hasn’t changed at all.”
Everyone was puzzled. They had been killing monsters all the way up here, with intense battles and countless monster kills. Even if the experience was small, they should have gotten something. It was impossible that they hadn’t gained any experience at all.
Li Yao explained, “As you’ve guessed, those were only Dream Mirage illusions. They were not real.”
“Big Brother, did you find out about this earlier?” Tongtong asked.
“Correct, I realized it from the beginning.” Li Yao replied.
“Then why didn’t you tell us? We wasted an entire day.” Tongtong gazed at Li Yao with a look of grievance. “Tongtong was almost exhausted to death fighting these illusions. Big Brother, you are so bad.”
“I wanted all of you to figure it out yourselves. But after a whole day, none of you did.” Li Yao brought out a scroll and shared its properties. “The Dream Mirage, the method to break it was this scroll. It’s unfortunate none of you found out. But on the bright side, the whole day of intense battles helped our team to better coordinate.”
Speechless, they couldn’t argue with Li Yao’s explanation that it was for the team’s cohesion. The intense battles, without rest, had significantly improved their teamwork. Moreover, they gained a clearer understanding of each other’s abilities and spells. Indeed, this was crucial for a team.
“You bastard, damn it, I’m a healer! I’m a healer! I’m dedicated to my wife. You manipulated me into being the main tank. Damn, I’m exhausted. I can’t believe I trusted you.” Guardian Angel grumbled bitterly. But he didn’t even have enough strength to stand up.
“Enough with the complaints. Stand up, all of you.” Li Yao, who had remained standing, chided. “Do you think the boss will kindly give us a break? Get up and take a look.”
Only then did the team members notice the boss, who wasn’t acting as usual, waiting for them to engage combat.
Instead, the boss was standing in the middle of a radiant Array casting a spell.
“How pathetic you all are. Brace yourselves for the wrath of the God of Nightmares.” With the Centaur High Priest’s declaration, the struggling ancient trees behind him were suddenly invaded by a black aura.
Two of the trees then charged towards them while another began to cast a spell. The sky instantly filled with clouds, followed by flashing thunderbolts and a huge downpour of lightning.
The members of Starfire Team were dumbfounded. The healers scrambled to their feet and began fervently healing.
“Why are you still standing there? In reality, the boss fight began as soon as we stepped onto the spiral staircase. This sly enemy won’t give you a chance to rest. Nightstand, take the two Ancient Treants charging at us with your Barrier Barrier. Fruit Knight, go challenge the boss and establish aggro. I need Jin Jin to control the spellcasting Nature System Treant.”
Starfire’s damage dealers also started to attack their segregated targets while releasing spells.
Li Yao’s Spider Tank directly charged at the Treant radiating green glow. The Spider Tank’s charge forced the Treant back, interrupting its spell.
All damage dealers, focus fire on the Nature System Treant. It’s a healer.
The damage dealers of Starfire Team also shook off their stupor and began to rush towards the target. Suddenly, the boss released its own spell.
The Centaur Priest casted a spell into the sky and with the rotation of a black vortex, countless black orbs began raining down. Those hit by the orbs lost half their health and their bodies disappeared.
As more and more team members were hit, fewer and fewer were left.
The black orbs then slowly floated into the distance, hovered beyond the platform surrounded by the Ancient Trees. After that, the orbs shattered and the members of the Starfire Team with halved health reappeared.
Then came numerous cries as they fell, and one should recall that this was from a height of three thousand yards.
With their screams, they disappeared without a trace.
On the platform, fewer than six people were left, facing four Ancient Trees and one super boss. Not to mention the others, even Li Yao couldn’t hold on.
Merely five minutes after they got to the platform, they were all wiped out.
Ten minutes later, they reconvened a distance from the Altar Tree, resting around a bonfire.
“Damn, this boss is insane. How are we supposed to play like this?” the Guardian Angel complained.
Unparalleled Seductress added, “This boss has a million health. It’s a mid-tier 2-star boss, and it controls four Treants. Two of them are melee, one is a spellcaster, and one is a healer. It’s essentially a mini team.”
“More importantly, these four Treants are 2-star beginner bosses, with health between five hundred thousand to six hundred thousand. There’s no way to take them down in one burst.” Sister Li frowned.
“It’s all Big Brother’s fault. We were already drained. The orbs were too fast for us to dodge. The fall from such a high place almost scared me to death.” The naive Tongtong looked horrified, recounting her ordeal.
Li Yao laughed, “This was a lesson for all of us. We are a team, and you all need to use your brains. Now, let’s disband for now. Everyone should rest properly. But remember, each of you has to come up with a strategy to deal with the boss.”
