Chapter 506: Chapter 507: The Task of Not Providing Food
She had two personal bodyguards. One was Xueno, and the other was called Yu Nuo.
When she returned to her home country, both were supposed to accompany her. However, there was a minor glitch with Yu Nuo’s visa, and he couldn’t make it back with her.
Once Yu Nuo’s visa was sorted, Ye Xinglan told her that he had assigned a task to Yu Nuo, asking him to stay in Country Y for a while longer to handle that task.
Although she couldn’t understand why Ye Xinglan chose Yu Nuo when he had so many people under him, her long-standing deep-seated respect for Ye Xinglan precluded her from saying anything other than expressing her agreement.
She hadn’t anticipated that Yu Nuo’s task would take several months.
Furthermore, it was as if Yu Nuo had disappeared. His phone was off, and she had been unable to reach him.
She was worried about Yu Nuo. Ye Xinglan mentioned that the task he had assigned Yu Nuo was a secret mission, and as such, he was unable to maintain contact.
Ye Xingbei, fearing to disrupt Ye Xinglan’s undertakings, did not dare ask any further, opting to wait patiently.
After all, her Brother Lan surely would not put Yu Nuo in harm’s way.
However, she couldn’t help but be curious about what specific mission Ye Xinglan’s many subordinates couldn’t be tasked with, and that only Yu Nuo could take on?
Xueno and Yu Nuo had been with her for more than five years. Over time, they had become like family to her.
Even though Xueno and Yu Nuo were technically her slaves, she felt no different towards them than she did towards Ye Xinglan and Ye Xingli. To her, they were all equally important.
Thinking about her imminent reunion with Yu Nuo swept away all the frustration caused by Qiao Yi’s matter.
She excitedly instructed Xueno, “Xueno, drive faster. We can still make it to the airport in time to welcome Yu Nuo. He’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that we’ve come to pick him up.”
“Yes, Miss,” Xueno replied. He had grown up with Yu Nuo, and they were closer than brothers. He was naturally happy about the imminent reunion, and he quickly accelerated the car towards the airport.
Their timing was perfect. When they arrived at the airport, they saw Yu Nuo dragging his suitcase out of the terminal exit.
Ye Xingbei excitedly ran towards him, waving and shouting, “Yu Nuo, over here!”
Upon hearing her, Yu Nuo stopped and looked her way.
When she got to him, she gleefully said, “Yu Nuo, it’s been a long time, you’re finally here!”
After saying her greetings, she realized something was wrong. She scrutinized Yu Nuo from head to toe, “Yu Nuo, why have you lost so much weight? What kind of task did my brother assign you? One where you didn’t get to eat?”
Yu Nuo’s face was pale, and his body was tense. He hung his head low and muttered, “Miss.”
Seeing his strange demeanor, Ye Xingbei reached out to feel his temperature, “Yu Nuo, what’s wrong with you? Are you sick?”
Before her hand could touch his forehead, Yu Nuo abruptly knocked it away.
Yu Nuo staggered backward, his face deathly pale and body shaking slightly.
After a moment, as he realized what he’d done, he subconsciously knelt down and stuttered, “I’m sorry, Miss, I didn’t mean to… I…”
“Yu Nuo, what are you doing?” Ye Xingbei quickly rushed to help him up. “Get up fast before people see you like this!”
With her hand on Yu Nuo’s arm, she tried to help him stand up.
Yu Nuo’s body was rigid, his teeth chattering, his hands clenched tightly into fists, as if he was fighting to control something.
Seeing his condition, Ye Xingbei felt a surge of panic, and with Xueno’s help, they managed to get him back to the car.
