Chapter 710: Tide Retreat

The beams reached me in an instant.

They are as powerful, but there is barely any fear in my heart. I should fear them, but I did not.

I calmly swung the blade toward the beams in front of me. The attacks that had the power to kill me. I cannot miss even one; I need to deal with every single one of them.

Rip!

My rapier reached the first beam as it did; it cut through the spells.

I could feel the power of the beam; it was very powerful, but a cyan blade cut through it. Coming out of the other end in an instant, before moving to cut the second beam.

When it did, my blade moved to the last one and cut through it as well.

In a second, my blade had destroyed three Grade V attacks. The attacks that would have killed instantly if they had landed on me.

It shocked even me, but I didn’t let it cloud me, and turned to Bear; it was looking at me.

I swung my rapier toward it, and the cyan blade shot out of the rapier. Like a falling leaf, it feels slow, but instantly, it appeared in front of the monster.

It isn’t just fast, but also beautiful.

I didn’t think my color would be cyan. I kind of expected it would be green or red.

When the aura forms a method, it is different for everyone. Every person manifests a different color. Bell’s is a beautiful shade of purple.

Some changes occur when one uses the above basic method, but the primary color remains.

Puch!

The cyan blade pierced through the arm of the monster, creating a hole through it.

Roar!

For a moment, the monster remained shocked; it roared angrily and came at me with rage, burning it.

Aura came out of me and instantly formed another cyan blade. It filled my heart with relief. I feared that it might be off, but it seemed like, once I understood it, I could not forget it.

Puch!

As the blade formed, I swung it toward the monster. Instantly, it appeared in front of it before piercing its collarbone.

I was aiming for the head, but my aim was off. I will need to practice it for a while before I can aim perfectly; I am sure Bell will help me with that.

The attack stopped the monster in its tracks, and for the first time, I could feel the genuine fear in its eyes.

It roared, and another cyan blade covered my rapier, and I was about to swing at it when it moved, and not toward me, but toward the forest.

Roar!

It roared as it did while I watched and, a moment later, dissolved the skill as it looked back at me.

I wanted to attack it, kill it, but that would be very risky. Yes, the method had created the holes in the monster’s body, but they were not life-threatening.

It had immense vitality. It could last long, and I would need to attack its heart or head to kill it

I don’t know if I could before it came at me. I am not in good shape, and it will reach me quickly, and while I have the method, it has those claws and beams.

It will be very hard to deal with both of those attacks. So, it is better to let it retreat and take it as a victory, because it is.

It is going to save many lives. Since it will not be retreating alone, the horde will retreat with it.

I was looking at it, alert and ready to attack if it turned, when I saw Lady Blackwell and Lord Kadys appearing on top of the hill before descending toward me at a fast speed.

It had been less than ten seconds since they disappeared from my view, and so much had happened.

“What happened? How did you make it retreat?” asked Blackwell, with confusion on her face as she looked at the retreating monster.

“I don’t know. Maybe it had sensed something,” I lied, and they looked at me. I could tell they knew I was lying, but they simply nodded.

“You are injured,” said Lady Blackwell, and a moment later, her healing spells covered me.

I also took out a bottle of potion and drank from it.

“The horde is retreating,” informed Lord Kadyz, and a few seconds later, we saw the monsters moving toward the forest. Soon, many moved past us, but not a single one had attacked.

Finally, all the monsters entered the forest, and we moved toward the city.

When we reached near the gate, we saw people piling the bodies of monsters and killing those that weren’t fully dead.

Among them are the bodies of the people. The monster horde didn’t last even for an hour, but it had killed a lot of people. I could see dead bodies.

Half of them were not even bodies, just parts.

“We have put all the effort into function, hoping to attract more trade through this route, but now everything has gone downhill,” said Blackwell, and sighed.

They have made a lot of preparations, but the monster attack changed things.

“It is not as bad as you think, as long as you control the narrative,” I replied after a moment of silence.

It made both of the nobles look at me. “What would controlling the narrative help?” she asked.

“The tide of monsters has attacked the city, killed people, and some had even entered the city,” she added a moment later, looking at me with questioning eyes.

“And you have successfully defended against it, making it retreat less than an hour without a loss of a single civilian life,” I replied.

She opened her mouth but stopped as no words seemed to come out of it.

“Lord Silver is right, Lady Blackwell. It is a victory. You have defended the city without civilian loss of life,” stated Lord Kadyz.

She didn’t say anything other than nodding, but I could see gears in her eyes shifting.

We didn’t speak and walked through the bodies of monsters toward the wall with Lady Blackwell casting the healing spells on the injured soldiers.

“This one is also alive!” said the Soldier not far away from me, looking at the lying monster.

“Stop!” I called, surprising them and also two nobles beside it, before appearing beside the monster.

It is the indigo horse monster with bronze scales covering its legs. I had torn nearly half of its neck, and Lady Blackwell’s thorns had covered it, but the monster still survived.

It’s in bad shape, but it is already recovering, with the injury on the neck closing in.

Humans, with all the care, take weeks if they survive such an injury. Monsters won’t even take days; they have powerful healing abilities.

It is necessary because either you recover fast or get eaten by another monster.

I appeared beside the horse and fed it the potions. It’s not the essence of emotions but the common ones. With its metabolism, it will act like an emotion essence potion to it.

“Wild monsters aren’t easy to control, Lord Silver, much less train,” said Lord Kadyz. Understanding my intention for the monster.

I know it, but the speed of the horse was amazing. It was greater than mine and the Grade V bear.

The bears are not speed-type monsters, but the speed of this horse was truly impressive. I am sure it would be more than what I had seen in the crowded field.

I do not want this horse as a pet like Fang. It’s proven that I cannot take care of it properly with my responsibilities, but this monster, if I can break it and tame it, won’t be a pet.

It would be a battle asset.

I have been training in mounted combat for months, and I know how much it would help me if I were able to tame this monster.

Though I understood the difficulty of it, I know it will be very challenging, but if I succeed, it might help me tremendously.

“Which monster do you think it is?” I asked. I had read a lot about monsters and could tell that it was mixed blood. One blood, I could guess, the other one, I cannot.

“It is likely a mix of kainas and bronze vale,” he replied. “Broze vale does not have lightning element, it only has scales,” I said.

The scales are also of a lighter shade, but mixing of blood could bring such changes.

“Some Kainas have an element. I had come across one that has wind elemental power and read about them having fire, lightning, and others,” he replied.

Both of the bloodlines are powerful, which will make it even harder to tame.

I nodded and turned to the monster.

The potion is working. The speed of its healing had increased further with the potions.

Seeing that, I got up and walked toward the wall with Lord Kadyz. Lady Blackwell had left to aid the injured.

“They have damaged the wall a lot,” I said, looking at the broken wall. “That’s monsters for you,” he replied. “Though it shouldn’t take more than a few days for them to fix it,” he added.

I nodded at that; the damage is, but could be fixed within a day. At max, it would take a week.

Soon, we reached the wall when a teen girl came running toward.

“Father!” she shouted and hugged her father. A moment later, she stiffened and let go of her father, and made her expression serious.

“Lord Silver,” she greeted with her cheeks red.

“Lady Iralyne, you have fought bravely,” I said, but she shook her head in disappointment. “It was not good. It was nothing compared to you and father,” she replied.

“You are young, you have more than enough time to catch up to me,” said Kadyz, and tried to pet her head, but the young girl made her father laugh.

She is young, barely seventeen. She is already above Lv. 10, which is very good for her age. Especially given her class. The noble classes are much harder to level up, than others.

Soon, I reached General Hiren. He was talking with the injured.

“Lord Silver,” he greeted. “How are the injured?” I asked.

“Our healers are taking care of them,” he replied, and I nodded, before turning to the dead; they have already wrapped them up in white clothes.

We have lost people; they were among our brightest. It hurts to even see them.

“Have you sent their names?” I asked after saying a prayer for them. “Just a few minutes ago,” he replied.

I took stock of the situation while talking to the General and others. Our men fought a good battle, and our casualties were much fewer than those of others.

We have lost only four people, which is much less than Renin’s army.

“Congratulations, General,” I finally congratulated him. He had an awakened aura; it is going to help us tremendously against the undead.

Though I just wished. It wouldn’t have come at the cost.
