“He can’t be gone…”
“This human is…”
The angels were shouting, their voices filled with both fear and admiration.
Some looked at Alex with disbelief.
While others seemed unable to process what had just happened.
Alex had heard the stories before, since he spent a long time fighting many races in his past life.
Tales of how no one ever returned from the Abyss.
It didn’t matter if they were mortals, demons, or some of the strongest beings in Universal Descent.
Once someone stepped into that cursed place, they were never seen again.
That rule applied to the angels too.
For thousands of years, they had been forced to offer monthly sacrifices to the God of the Abyss, Varyn.
Their offerings consisted of captured monsters, but sometimes, they had no choice but to sacrifice their own kin as well.
They despised the Abyss with every fiber of their being.
When they had finally tried to oppose its ruler, Varyn had retaliated with overwhelming force.
Their cities were burned, their warriors slaughtered, and their former king was executed in front of them.
Ever since that day, the angels had lived in fear, knowing that resistance was futile.
But now…
The cruel, invincible god they had feared for so long was dead.
And it had happened inside his own domain.
“But… he was immortal.”
The Angel King, Volks, took a step forward, his expression tense.
“How do you kill an immortal being, especially in their own domain?”
Alex’s grin widened at the question, and it sent a chill through the air.
The angels flinched.
There was something about that smile, something unsettling.
“I killed him once.” Alex shrugged, “And that was enough, I have my ways.”
There was silence.
The weight of those words lingered in the air, pressing down on the angels.
Alex stretched his arms.
“Anyway, I’m leaving.”
“Wait!”
Volks stepped in front of him, his massive white wings unfolding slightly.
“How can we repay you?”
Alex paused.
He hadn’t expected that.
Angels were proud, far prouder than most races.
They weren’t as arrogant as dragons, of course, but they still held their honor in high regard.
If they were offering a reward, then it meant that what he had done was truly beyond anything they could have imagined.
“Hm…”
Alex pretended to think, though in reality, he had already made up his mind.
Opportunities like this weren’t something to waste.
He was going to take advantage of it.
“I have three requests.”
He finally said.
Volks nodded without hesitation.
“Very well.”
“May we discuss them inside the Golden Palace?”
Alex smiled.
“Sure.”
The Golden Palace was the home of the Angel King and the royal family.
It wasn’t just a place of residence, it was a symbol of power, wealth, and history.
A sacred place.
But for Alex, it wasn’t the palace itself that interested him.
It was what he could gain from this meeting.
“I assume you can fly?”
Volks asked, unfolding his eight wings as he prepared to take off.
Alex unfurled his own Wings of Destiny, the divine energy flowing through them.
“Of course.”
With that, the two of them took flight, soaring through the skies of the Double Experience Zone, followed closely by the other angels.
Before long, they reached the massive beam of light that would teleport them back to Angel City.
Alex stepped inside the light and, in the blink of an eye, found himself in a place he hadn’t seen in a long time.
The level 5 city known as Angel City.
The city stretched before him, its massive white buildings shimmering under the golden sky.
The last time he had come here, it had been completely different.
Back then, he was nothing more than a mere human, forced to act like a slave just to gain entry.
He had needed the help of Artemis, one of the angels who served under Arceus, the Grand Mage of the Mage Tower.
But now?
This time, he was personally welcomed by the Angel King himself.
And all because he had done something no one had ever thought possible.
Killing a god.
Alex stepped out of the teleportation structure and followed Volks toward the Golden Palace, the largest and most majestic building in the city.
None of the other angels dared to follow them.
After all, only those with authority were allowed inside the king’s palace.
The fact that Alex was being invited in was an unheard-of honor.
“We’ll land here.”
Volks said as they descended a few streets away from the palace.
Alex nodded, folding his wings as he touched the ground.
The streets were lined with hundreds of angels, all watching the two of them with intense gazes.
“Is that him…?”
“The rumors said he killed a god, but is that even possible?”
“The king never leaves the palace unless it’s something major…”
There was doubt in their voices.
Some refused to believe it.
But at the same time… there was fear.
Alex could feel it in their eyes.
Even with Volks, their strongest warrior, standing beside him, they were afraid of him.
And why wouldn’t they be?
His presence alone was enough to make people nervous.
The way he moved, always ready for a counterattack.
His eyes, constantly shifting like a vortex, a sign of power beyond comprehension.
The divine aura surrounding him, even more potent than that of the Angel King.
And then there was the crown atop his head, a mysterious artifact radiating two different mystical forces, fused together into something new.
Volks didn’t say anything to the onlookers.
Instead, he simply kept walking.
“We shall discuss around the table.”
He said.
“I’ve already called for a feast.”
“I hope you don’t mind my family’s presence.”
Alex shrugged.
“As long as they’re not annoying.”
“I’ll make sure they aren’t.”
Eventually, they reached the Golden Palace.
The massive golden gates swung open, revealing a grand courtyard lined with fully armored angelic guards.
As soon as they saw Alex, they did something unexpected.
They knelt.
Alex glanced at Volks.
“Did you tell them to do that?”
“No.”
Interesting.
Without another word, Alex followed the Angel King through the marble hallways.
Servants gasped and moved aside as they passed, their eyes wide with shock.
Before long, they arrived at the Dining Hall.
It was a grand room with a long golden table lined with ornate chairs.
Seated at the table were eight people, Volks’ three wives and five children.
Volks exhaled.
He seemed more tense than before, but he remained composed.
“These are my wives and children.”
He introduced them briefly.
Then, gesturing to a seat, he said.
“Please, sit.”
Alex took the seat closest to the edge of the table, while Volks sat across from him.
His wives and children sat in their usual places, though they all looked visibly nervous.
With a snap of Volks’ fingers, servants entered, placing lavish dishes onto the table before stepping out.
“You said you had three requests.”
Volks said, his voice firm.
“I will honor them, no matter what they are.”
The others didn’t touch their food.
They were too focused on him.
Alex, on the other hand, smiled.
These three requests were about to change everything.
And he was ready to use them.
