A monstrous pressure filled the battlefield.
The sheer weight of the abyss pressed down on Alex, making it hard to even breathe.
“I don’t see any reason to hold back, you are strong.”
Then, Varyn’s body began to change.
Shadows twisted, bones cracked, and limbs grew.
His form expanded, warping into something inhuman.
Alex’s [Destiny Vision] struggled to keep up, but the golden outlines finally traced the shape of a massive creature.
A hulking monstrosity, five meters tall, even taller than Astolf.
Four arms, two of them wielding scythes, the other two crackling with dark energy.
A gaping mouth replaced where his head should have been.

This was his true form.

Alex tensed. This wasn’t good.
“Why the hell would you transform already?” he asked, stepping back. “Aren’t you supposed to gradually power up?”

Alex’s gaze snapped to the side.
Astolf and Lorien were still locked in battle.
The Undead King had summoned extra skeletal arms, each wielding a different weapon, using them to clash with Lorien’s rapid attacks.
Neither of them even looked at Alex or Varyn.
Alex turned back, and nearly had a heart attack.
Varyn was right in front of him.
His massive, grotesque form loomed over Alex, inches away from his face.
Alex’s entire body froze in pure, unfiltered terror.
For the first time in a long while, he felt fear.
Then, before he could react—
Abyss Tendrils!
Black, writhing tendrils lashed out, grabbing Alex by the leg.
“Got you.” Varyn’s voice was a deep growl, vibrating through Alex’s chest.
SLAM!
Varyn lifted Alex and smashed him into the ground.
Then again.
And again.
And again.
“ARGH, WHAT THE FUCK?!” Alex roared, pain shooting through every nerve in his body.
Each impact shattered the ground beneath him.
His bones cracked.
His vision blurred.
The worst part wasn’t even the pain.

He turned toward Astolf and Lorien, ready to end them next.
But just as he took a step forward, something changed.
