Chapter 5: Ambition
The novels from his memories needed to be written quickly; time was money. If he was even a step late, and the original owner wrote them first, everything would be too late. Now, he needed these novel copyrights to make money. The sooner they were published, the sooner he would profit, accumulating more funds and simultaneously gaining greater fame, which would provide more powerful assistance for his subsequent actions!
Although he would be very busy and under great pressure during this period, compared to the future gains, all the busyness and hard work were worth it. There is no gain without effort; nothing comes without a price. Even a plagiarist has to work hard.
Opportunities like the Plaza Accord do not come around often. Since he had encountered it, he had to seize this chance, doing his utmost to plunder enough wealth to prepare for his upcoming plans. Only with sufficient funds could his grand plan proceed smoothly.
Although he hadn't been integrated into this era for long, a somewhat vague grand plan had already formed in his mind. To push this plan forward, immense capital was needed; at least to initiate it, hundreds of millions of dollars would be required. Relying solely on plagiarism would not be enough to accomplish this task.
The gold market was an opportunity. If he missed this excellent timing, all his plans would be affected, a result he was unwilling to see. He had to diligently complete all the prior preparations, gathering as much capital as possible, and waiting for the right moment.
Arriving in the United States in 1981 and understanding his surroundings naturally ignited an astonishing ambition. Waking up to wield global power and falling asleep with a beauty by his side was his ultimate goal. In the United States, achieving this required having his own large Consortium, and that Consortium was his ambition.
After World War II, the last super Consortium was formed, and the United States could no longer tolerate the emergence of new super Consortiums. To break this restriction, the Plaza Accord was the best opportunity and his first step in laying a solid foundation. If this step failed, the subsequent ones would be even more difficult.
It was precisely because he understood all this that John worked even harder. Time waits for no one. Although he possessed a wealth of future information, establishing his own Consortium was still extremely difficult. Opportunities exist, but if one cannot seize them, it's like trying to catch the moon in the water. To succeed, one needs to make more attempts and preparations in the early stages of development. When his ideas received his parents' approval, his focus shifted from schooling to the grand endeavor of plagiarism. While engaged in the great work of plagiarism, he was also contemplating future arrangements!

He only needed to wait to collect the money, without having to invest any more time or effort. Twenty million pounds—this price shocked John greatly, and such a gain far exceeded his imagination!
With the success of BBC Broadcasting Company, results would soon follow in the United States, and it would even be shown in more countries. Accumulating one hundred million dollars in capital seemed no longer a dream; it would soon be realized.
The reason his parents did not choose to sell the super project millionaire in the United States was because the U.S. market is the largest in the global market. If they had chosen to sell the U.S. copyright first, it would have resulted in huge losses for him. Only after the millionaire project succeeded in Britain, setting a precedent and providing a reference, would they achieve maximum benefit in the United States, maximizing profits!
John was full of confidence in the six novels he held. If he weren't too young, and “Fifty Shades of Grey” was not something a boy like him could easily get involved with, it would also have been one of his targets. Speaking of which, that book might have been his best choice for accumulating funds!
“Fifty Shades of Grey” sold 70 million copies in eight months, bringing EL James 95 million dollars in income. This temptation was incredibly astonishing; how could he not be moved!
After dinner, his parents asked John to come to the study. His father spoke directly, “John, the family fund and the money from the sale of millionaire have arrived. The offshore companies you requested to register are also complete, and the ten million funds the family gave you have been divided into two as you requested. Now, what are your investment plans?”
“Father, I now need to establish a gaming company, specializing in arcade and home consoles. This is Silicon Valley, so hiring people isn't difficult, but I don't want anyone to know my plan. Considering the vast gaming market, John made this decision to enter the gaming market. The temptation of game console patents was too great, and he couldn't guarantee that the employees he hired would be able to resist the allure of profit. A secure environment was very important!
“That's easy to solve. The family's vacation estate is in California; you can arrange for them to go there. Once the research is successful and the patent is registered, then you can officially open for business!” What seemed like a big, troublesome matter to him was just a small thing in his parents' eyes!
Before the volatility in the gold market arrived, he still had plenty of time to prepare. Game console patents had to be developed immediately. If he didn't speed up, many things would fall into the hands of others!
Registering patents preemptively was his most important task right now! In his spare time from plagiarism, the designs for game controllers and transformers had also been completed. These were patents that urgently needed to be registered, and all of this still needed to be handled by his father, as he did not have the ability to do so himself.
“The research location is settled. Next, there are two more patents that need your help, Father. One is the game controller I designed; the Atari console is too rudimentary. The other is a toy design I thought of after watching a Japanese mecha animation; I call it transformers!”
Originally, he had also considered preemptively registering patents for office software, thereby stifling Microsoft's development. However, his energy and time were limited; he couldn't do everything in such a short period. He had to make choices, at least for now.
Although office software was good and Microsoft would indeed be formidable in the future, Microsoft was just a small fry now. As long as he got through the current founding period, he would have plenty of time to scheme against Microsoft later. The game console market was different; if he didn't speed up, the Japanese famicom would soon appear, and the patents would fall into the hands of the Japanese. This was not a result he wanted to see. It was not easy to transmigrate, and being in the United States, if he didn't teach Japan a lesson and seize Japanese resources, he wouldn't be a good Chinese person.
“That's a small matter! John, can you handle doing so many things? I think you should focus your energy and do one thing well first. Didn't you say you wanted to do entertainment? Have you given up now?”
John shook his head and said, “No, I haven't given up. I just want to see how much capital I'll have left after doing all these things, and whether I can buy a small record company or a small film company!”
“Oh! So you don't plan to use those twenty million pounds from Britain, and only want to invest with the funds you currently have?” Smith was very surprised by John's answer.
“Yes, Father. I really don't want to use those twenty million pounds; I have another use for that capital. For now, I just want to do something with the remaining funds I have. I don't know how much capital would be needed to invest in a small record company or a film company!”
“Hahahaha!” Instantly, Mr. and Mrs. Smith burst into laughter, leaving John utterly confused as to why his parents had reacted that way.
